Re: Cropping Aspect Ratio

If you're going to ignore previous formats you might as well go with 2:1. Doesn't get much "easier to work with" than that.

But the whole point is moot. The world isn't likely to adopt a new TV aspect ratio anytime soon.

Wikipedia has an explanation for that.

Re: [Rejected] iTunes Store Video Presets

iTunes isn't that consistent either, even though it only has "HD" and "SD" tags. "Fixed horizontal resolution" is correct, but beyond that, it varies widely. Just a few SD examples from my own collection: 640x480 16:9 @ 23.976 fps 640x480 16:9 @ 25 fps 640x480 4:3 @ 29....

GUI: Extended subtitle information

Currently, the Handbrake GUI on both Windows and Linux (I'm unfamiliar with the Mac version, so I don't know if it applies) only displays very basic subtitle information. 1 English (VobSub) -- Number, Language, Type Getting more detailed information requires a subtitle scan, which cannot be run by i...

Re: Forcing 4:3 to 16:9

The easiest solution would be to switch Cropping from Automatic to Custom and manually define how much you want to cut off the top and bottom of the picture to get the aspect ratio you want. Of course doing so, you actually lose part of the image. Alternatively, switch Anamorphic to None , uncheck K...

Re: Separate subtitle scan possible?

Thanks for the quick reply. Oddly enough, when I tried to replicate the results I got previously (where no subtitles would be burned in unless I selected the forced captions track without the "forced only" feature enabled), I couldn't. Still, the basic question remains: Is there a way to d...

Re: Forcing 4:3 to 16:9

What end result are you looking for? The only ways to make a 4:3 video fit a wider screen are stretching or cropping.

Separate subtitle scan possible?

I usually use the Foreign Audio Search option along with Forced Only to let Handbrake detect the presence of subtitles for foreign languages on DVD sources. However, this will not detect separate (foreign-only) subtitle streams that don't have forced flags. So far the only option seems to be to chec...

Re: 0.9.4 produces garbage

It's definitely WMP's fault as it works fine in VLC and Zoom Player (with ffdshow). I don't usually use WMP, it was just convenient for some quick testing.

You can consider this problem solved. Thanks again!

Re: 0.9.4 produces garbage

Thanks for the quick help!

My conversions are usually meant for playback on Xbox 360 or PS3, but I only checked my 0.9.4 test clips in WMP12 (Windows 7). Ironically, the 360 seems to have no problems with the new clips.

0.9.4 produces garbage

I've done several test encodes using Handbrake 0.9.4. and they all seem to result in garbage regardless of profile. http://img682.imageshack.us/img682/9307/hbp2.png I've been using 0.9.3 for a while and never encountered that particular problem. Even encoding the same clip using 0.9.3 and 0.9.4 resu...
