Re: Action! videos and Handbrake?

mkvtoolnix will do the job with zero loss of quality: it simply remuxes the audio and video into another container.

Re: UNABLE TO RIP WITH HB - RECENT NEW MACBOOK PRO, 16GB RAM, I7, NIVIEDA

There's an installer package available from the videolan website. Woodstock's advice above still stands; HandBrake will never perform as well as a dedicated ripper.

To elaborate, it's no longer required as our new MP4 muxer handles the 32/64 bit switch automatically.

I'd try HQDN3D light to medium, as a starting point.

Re: File size estimate

Well, most action/drama movies save the big action scenes for the very end. Could gobble up bits at many times the average rate of the preceding two hours . . . Came across a great example of this the other day. I was encoding Ice Age 2 for my kids and the flood sequence at the end of the movie cau...

Re: Settings For Best Audio...

You need to have a compatible AV receiver/amplifier. The ATV doesn't do anything with the AC3 audio except pass it through to your amp to decode.

Re: Settings For Best Audio...

The current settings.

The ATV3 preset creates a stereo AAC track as the primary track and passes through the original AC3 track from DVD sources, or in the case of DTS/DTS-HD tracks it creates an AC3 track as that's all the ATV3 supports.

Re: Does handbrake provide a way to delete original files after it's converted?

No it doesn't, and it's not a good idea in any case. You should never delete a source file until you are 100% sure the transcode is correct.

[Fixed] MacGUI 6509svn: Dynamic Range Control not honoured

I've noticed an issue that's crept into the Mac GUI since my last encode; the DRC setting is no longer being honoured. In the log below, I've set DRC to 1.5 which appears to work during the generation of a live preview but reverts to 1.0 during the actual encode. Related to the reworked queue code, ...

I'll assume you're talking about letterboxing, which is the result of displaying many 2.35:1 films on widescreen TV's which are 1.78:1 - if this is not the case, please post an encode log.

Um, don't use H.264 as an intermediate format? For editing purposes you're better off using something like ProRes or DNxHD.

Re: Handbrake won't load a video.

I'm not 100% sure. I've heard reports that libav was updated to support dxtory a few months back, so the 0.10.0 release candidate of HandBrake should work. None of the other people who've reported this issue have bothered to come back to tell us whether it worked. :/
