[Accepted] Make auto shutdown feature more fool proof (for fools like me)

From time to time I use the very handy feature of lettings HB shut down the system after finishing encoding. This works fine. BUT: I pretty much always forget to "diffuse" it afterwards and the system suddenly shuts down after finishing i.e. a test encoding. This maybe OS depended - most o...

[Linux GUI] App crashes while selecting AAC quality level

The application constantly closes/crashes if I want to select a quality level for AAC VBR. What exactly happens: 1.) Edit the track settings (AAC FDK encoder already selected or select it) 2.) Click on "quality" for setting VBR quality 3.) Click on (still greyed out) icon for quality level...

[Linux GUI] Minor queue issues

I noticed two little things in the last couple of SVN builds: The last queue item/job reappears in the queue after restarting the application (although finished successfully before). If I (temporarily) remove an item from the queue by clicking the Edit button, the pending jobs counter still shows n ...

Re: HandBrake spontaneously shutting down computer

I'm also using a Asrock MB (970 Extreme3 R2.0) + 8GB RAM + AMD FX 8350 system mostly for encoding with Handbrake (using Ubuntu/Linux as OS). Power supply is a Antec "High Current Gamer" with 520W and the CPU-cooler a Thermalright Macho. GPU is a old AMD/Ati HD3850 - but I don't do 3D stuff...

Re: HandBrake spontaneously shutting down computer

(not 100% sure if the Linux GUI offers this, the others do so probably). Yes the Linux GUI does offer a shutdown option. But, of course, only after finishing the queue. According to the log the encoding wasn't finished at all - so I also would guess a hardware/temp/load problem. To test if this cou...

[FIXED] Linux, 7035svn, No activity indicator in queue

Minor issue: As of recently there is no activity indicator (little spinning circle of circles... ;)) visible anymore while encoding. There is a green check mark for done items, but the currently running job has the same icon than the waiting jobs below, which is a little bit confusing. OS: Ubuntu 14...

Re: Latest handbrake on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS?

I'm not sure, but i guess "faac" is just an alias for "fdk_aac" - which indeed should be preferred over av_aac (better quality). EDIT: I guess I'm wrong (faac and fdk_aac are different codecs): https://trac.ffmpeg.org/wiki/Encode/AAC#WhichencodershouldIuseWhatprovidesthebestquali...

Re: Latest handbrake on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS?

"handbrake" and "handbrake-dbg" are the packages provided by the Ubuntu repos. If not already done - remove them. "handbrake-cli" and "handbrake-gtk" are the PPA packages you want (or maybe already have). "ghb" is the binary you need to run from the ...

Re: Latest handbrake on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS?

Specifically, I did this command: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:stebbins/handbrake-releases Did you a apt-get update after adding the repository? Then I tried (as root) doing a fresh: apt-get install handbrake-cli Unfortunately, that command poked around a bit and then just declared "handbrake-c...

Already encoding. ;) (built rev6983 manually)

BTW: I reloaded a queue which I saved using the last PPA build, but only 5 of 9 jobs were restored. Maybe a side effect of the bug, I don't know - just wanted to mention it.

Re: Better understanding of variable frame rates

VFR makes the duration of each frame of the output video exactly the same as the duration of each frame of the input video. So if your input video changes framerate occasionally, so will the output. If your input video is a collection of static frames, the output will be a collection of static fram...

Re: Better understanding of variable frame rates

Vfr does not change the base frame rate; it does not "switch" between 24 and 30 fps. You are confusing two entirely separate things. But what exactly are those two things I'm confusing? Maybe the basic principle called VFR ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Variable_frame_rate ) and the concr...

Better understanding of variable frame rates

Hi! Since I'm using HandBrake (x264 encoder) I'm using the variable frame rate (VFR) setting. My sources are almost always constant frame rate (CFR) and I never had any playback problems, so I really didn't gave it much thought. I read the Wiki/Docs about frame rates and stuff but I'm still not quit...

Yes, I agree, that would be nice.

Something like "Always set first track as default track" or "Always enable first track (set as default)".

Re: Option for Default Subtitles & Quick Overview

What do you mean by "lock the 'Default' option"? The default settings for the subtitles are saved with the preset (if you save/update it). So if you make this preset the default preset these settings are getting loaded on startup.

It could be this issue: viewtopic.php?f=12&t=30021

@purple52: Try disabling the system tray icon (the little icon which shows you the progress percentage) in the HandBrake preferences.

[Linux GUI] nlmeans always uses default settings

First, I was wondering why every output setting for nlmeans produces the same output file size. After looking at the logs I found that instead of showing something like + Denoise (nlmeans) (3,000000:0,900000:7:3:2:0:4,000000:0,900000:7:3:2:0) it just always shows + Denoise (nlmeans) (default setting...

Thank you for looking into it! :)

I forget to add one item which was also on my list:
  • Another idea would be to add an option to Subtitle Defaults to always set the first subtitle track as default track.
