Re: Problem with AC3 in .m4v
I have the same experience with Windows 7, and have yet to get 5.1 working from my encodes. The closest I get is with VLC, where it stammers through the audio track. But have yet to get something that will play happy. So far I've tried VLC, Windows Media Player and Quicktime. I know the 5.1 works as...

Re: Advanced Bluray/HDDVD Workflow & Features Discussion
fcmarriott, Have you tried the Windows version of MetaX? I know that would involve flipping back to Windows, but I've found that it's far more stable and it allows HD tagging for iTunes so that would save the second step in Subler. Good point; the Windows port of MetaX utilizes the mp4v2 library th...

VLC Version
I've been reading here that if you have the 32bit version of Handbrake, you should have the 32 bit version of VLC, and 64bit HB with the 64 bit VLC. Is this only if you need it for disc ripping? If not is it OK to mix? I ask as right now, I don't use HB for ripping, just encoding and haven't had an ...

Windows 7 HTPC weirdness
I have been using HB for a very longtime now, so I have many files converted from DVD and BluRay to the AppleTV and Universal Presets encoded with many versions of HB. Recently I've been playing around with a Home Theatre PC to try and replace many external devices, but have found a strange problem ...

Re: Advanced Bluray/HDDVD Workflow & Features Discussion
This isn't going to work as you need to convert the DTS-HD track before it goes into HB anyway. ClownBD, Handbrake and G.I. Joe all work fine, I never had any issues converting this movie.
How are you ripping the disc?

Re: Advanced Bluray/HDDVD Workflow & Features Discussion
Thanks for the reply. I will leave the default blank for the AC3 output setting going forward. Am I correct in choosing the DTS master audio as the audio input? Or should I choose the separate AC3 (if it's available?) I am pretty sure I have the current versions of clownbd, eac, tsmux, etc., but I wi...

Re: Advanced Bluray/HDDVD Workflow & Features Discussion
Ok, I have hit a bit of a snag here. The first Bluray movie that I tried worked out well. The end product was beautiful. Now, the second 2 I have tried, Handbrake has crashed somewhere in the middle of the encode process. It will encode for maybe an hour or 2, I come back and it has crashed. (error...

Re: New Apple TV Software 3.0 issues?
I just don't understand why you have to be total idiots when someone reports an issue like this. I work in the AV industry in NYC and know what I'm talking about when it comes to stuff like this as I deal with it a lot with high end clients wanting good quality. What ever you guys think, there was a...

New Apple TV Software 3.0 issues?
I just updated the AppleTV to version 3.0, and the new iTunes for my iMac (You need to run Update 2 times to get it), everything is Streaming just fine. My first thought though is the image after the update looks like someone turned the Contrast down a couple of notches. The image doesn't look darke...

Re: [ffmpeg bug] (SVN2829) Random Crashes
Do you know what could be causing this to happen, because without changing anything, I did other encodes last night. Just this one keeps crashing HB. I've tried even rebooting the computer, and just running HB, and it still happens.

Re: [ffmpeg bug] (SVN2829) Random Crashes
Is this still the same problem, as this is the only file I seem to be unable to encode right now, and its beginning to bum me out!! Process: HandBrake [1563] Path: /Applications/HandBrake.app/Contents/MacOS/HandBrake Identifier: org.m0k.handbrake Version: svn2845 i386 (2009092801) Code Type: X86 (Na...

Re: [ffmpeg bug] (SVN2829) Random Crashes
Thanks for the clarification about it being an intermittent bug, and not random, I now understand.
FYI, I gave up, walked away from the computer for 6 hours, didn't do anything except reopen HB and reload the cue, and it worked fine.

Re: (SVN2829) Random Crashes
Your crash report indicates this isn't a HandBrake bug. If it's fixed the next time we refresh libavcodec, great, if not, it will remain broken. It's also not "random" but rather clearly tied to vc1 decoding mmx instructions. Oh, if its not random, why does it happen at different times in...

[ffmpeg bug] (SVN2829) Random Crashes
Hi I have been getting random crashes on the latest snap shot. Latest with a Rip of Watchman. I've tried it from a WD Passport, and a Lacie D2 as the source storage. After 2 resets I managed to get an iPhone encode, but the ATV seems to be a sticky point. I have an iMac 10.6.1 2.66 with 2gb Ram. Blu...

Re: svn2592, 2713, 2725 Segmentation Fault with M2ts, vc1, dts
Not to push it, but ClownBD really does takes care of all of this guess work here, its totally fool proof. The only stitching issue I ever had was with Bolt, but this was from a version way back and is now fixed. ClownBD has come a long way since its first release, now it can extract audio cores, co...

Re: svn2592, 2713, 2725 Segmentation Fault with M2ts, vc1, dts
I'd highly recommend using ClownBD to do all the work to get files ready for Handbrake. The guy who created it keeps it up to date all the time. I haven't had a problem in a very very long time with files that are changed with this great front end.

Re: Advanced Bluray/HDDVD Workflow & Features Discussion
Well then wouldn't the external drive from fastmac.com work fine? Becuase it CAN write to cd's and dvd's, and it's only $109! I have this one, stay away from it for ripping Blu-ray, it's only 60% successful. Same as the External LiteOn. I believe the Fastmac uses the Matsui (or something like that)...

Re: Advanced Bluray/HDDVD Workflow & Features Discussion
With the new Presets now in full force, I have found that dropping the quality down to RF22 or 57% is giving me a much smaller and better quality result than with the old AppleTV Preset. However I was quite happy with the file sizes I was getting before, so I upped the quality to RF21 or 59%, wow wh...

Apple TV 2.4 Update Chapters!!
Hey all, Today was the release of the AppleTV 2.4 update. At first I though they had got rid of the chapters markers and the 5 min jumps for movies with no chapters file. But, I was wrong. Left and Right now only FF and REW. Push down on the remote brings up the new chapter support bar. http://suppo...

Re: Preset that is easy to decode.
I believe I have worked it out. With the latest SVN build with jbrjake's new preset for the AppleTV, the quality set at 55% RF23, dimensions at 1024x??? and taking out the DD track, I'm ending up with files that are around 1gig and look great on my Dell Mini9 in iTunes. Skipping to points in the mov...

Re: Preset that is easy to decode.
Looking to watch some material on a netbook, are we? Universal preset should be fine. If you're planning on using Quicktime or iTunes for playback, DON'T. Your choice of player software has more of an impact on playback performance than almost any encoding setting, and Apple's decoder is notoriousl...

Preset that is easy to decode.
Which preset in HB would be the best to use if I wished to have an output size of 1024x??? but be easy on an Atom processor to decode?
