Re: Fixing EyeTV files so HB can open them
As tewkes posted their most recent in this thread nearly two years ago now, I doubt they're still around to respond to your query! But yes, I can confirm that they are indeed describing EyeTV settings for analogue input devices. Even so, the latest HB works fine as-is with EyeTV recordings, and is a...

Re: Can i change the Thumbnail of a movie in Itunes?
Why not just browse out to Amazon or Overstock.com and grab the correct cover art? Then do the same thing as suggested (paste into the artwork for the file in iTunes). Then, when displaying on the AppleTV, iTouch, etc it will look like a DVD cover. Fine if you want to set artwork for a single movie...

And assuming you've already cd'd to the directory where HandBrakeCLI resides, otherwise you need to specify the full path to the executable.

Re: Reconvert w/o loss or video conversion to fix DRC
The best option is to reencode from source material. Even so, on a Mac, QuickTime Pro (in OS 10.6 that's the optional 7, not the default X) can take an MP4, adjust the volume and save out to MOV with no reencoding of the video. So an equivalent utility for Windows may do what you want. Cheers, Chris

Re: Can i change the Thumbnail of a movie in Itunes?
It's been a while since I used iTunes but I believe you simply need to find the appropriate frame, right click on the video window and select "Set poster frame." I've found that using "Set Poster Frame" made my AppleTV sluggish as it had to seek through videos before it could di...

Re: Beginning Work on iPad Preset
We already know from the advanced AppleTV settings discussed elsewhere on these forums that Apple's stated specs don't necessarily equate to a device's actual capability, so why waste time on guesswork before you (or more importantly the devs) can actually get your hands on one of these for real-wor...

Re: MP2 Stream Copy
As far as I can tell, he's not requesting universal input, but MP2 audio passthrough. I know. That's why I only quoted the part of his post to which I was responding, i.e. the inaccurate declaration that HB ignores data from non-DVD sources. Apologies for the lack of clarity in my previous response...

Re: Converting Mac UI settings to CLI equivalents...
Nope. The UI never interfaces with the CLI so never generates a query. That may be technically true but, if you're using HB GUI's inbuilt presets, you can still view the equivalent CLI commands by passing CLI the '-z' parameter. And even if you've modified a stock GUI preset, you can at least take ...

until Handbrake relaxes from its dedication to the DVD format and accepts that data exports from PVRs Erm, you might like to go back and re-read the HandBrake home page : HandBrake 0.9.3: Released! Re: constant quality for compressed dvd's
Although you say you're bothered about quality, it seems you're not bothered enough to go back to the original DVDs. In which case, as 'quality' is ultimately down to issues of personal judgement, why not just have a go at encoding some samples and see for yourself if playback quality is 'good enoug...

Re: Encodes aren't as smooth as DVD
Thanks for the comment Chris. But seriously, 20th Century Fox, Lionsgate? Erm, big corporation does not imply best quality -- you'll find comments elsewhere in the HB forums about other bad transfers to DVD. I've also seen panning stutter in normal SD television broadcasts, in every episode of one ...

Re: handbrake feature request "run script"
You might consider using AppleScript or shell scripts to run the CLI and then you can automate to your heart's content. Little bit more of a learning curve compared to the GUI, but much more flexible in return. There are plenty of example scripts elsewhere on these forums to use as your starting poi...

Re: Handbrake and Apple TV
Thanks Chris - this approach at least got me thinking about it. Do you have the conversions from scheduled EyeTV recordings through Handbrake fully automated somehow? Indeed I have! First, I manually trim and de-advert each recording in EyeTV, and set the playhead (and hence EyeTV's preview image) ...

Re: Handbrake and Apple TV
Or just use iTunes smart playlists to control what gets synced to the ATV. A great thought for just moving things through as needed - one or many at a time... however I would like to ultimately backup our entire video collection and create a sort of master juke-box on a network - so any title can b...

Re: apple tv not filling screen
why would you want to do this? Because 720x576 can equally be 4:3 or 16:9. Sometimes the movie doesn't carry information as to which aspect ratio should be used (e.g. my old Sky satellite box outputs both indiscriminately) and one has to adjust the aspect ratio from the TV remote, as nicpec found. ...

Re: Handbrake Crashes when encoding EyeTV mpg
This has fixed the crash issue but now the audio stream is severely distorted The last time this happened to me was with a developer snapshot prior to HB 0.9.4, so I assumed the problem had gone away now. Thanks for the heads-up, I'll keep an eye out for it. However, I found that reverting to HB 0....

Re: Run HandBrake CLI on Apple TV
Don't forget that the AppleTV runs hot enough as it is! While it's technically possible to do what you want, the hardware simply wasn't designed for that kind of intensive work. I'm all for proof of concept though: your iPhone runs a version of OS X too, so why not use that for HB rips in between ca...

Re: Handbrake Crashes when encoding EyeTV mpg
I've found that exporting the EyeTV recording as an MPEG Program Stream and then ripping that file with HandBrake has been a reliable workaround in such situations.
