Re: possible to get Lame (ideally VBR) audio, and for mp4 too?

[...] just posting extended diatribes measuring the penile lengths of various encoding engines and rate control methods. That was rude, dude. If anyone posting here ("measuring penile lengths") had the skills to code it, I'm sure it would have been done. Can we discuss about features with...

[Known] Uninstall doesn't remove Start Menu entries

Handbrake Uninstaller doesn't remove Start Menu entries:

Re: possible to get Lame (ideally VBR) audio, and for mp4 too?

Thanks for the heads up. Is there something inherently wrong with faac? Aren't all the settings available in the CLI? If it's just a preset issue surely there are workarounds. Since I have encoded all of my own dvd work 5.1 AC-3, I guess I never paid much attention, but since I am just getting into...

Re: possible to get Lame (ideally VBR) audio, and for mp4 too?

Why do you think iTunes delivers AAC rather than MP3? The problem is not AAC. With a good encoder (like Apple), of course AAC is better than MP3. But we are talking about FAAC, the AAC encoder used by Handbrake at Windows and Linux versions (OS X version uses Apple's implementation with Core Audio)...

Re: possible to get Lame (ideally VBR) audio, and for mp4 too?

For me is pretty simple: FAAC is crap. So, since encoding with LAME presets allways beats FAAC, I suggest that LAME presets can be made available at least with MKV.

TimmyC, you're absolutely right. Unfortunately I don't have the skills to play with this.

You're right, it was fixed on svn3033.

Closed topic.

AC3 Passthru "bitrate"

Handbrake 0.9.4 on Windows Vista SP2 x64.

I think "32" doesn't make sense. Probably better "Auto" or something like, or show the real AC-3 bitrate.

Re: libsamplerate/libvorbis: newer versions are available

http://trac.handbrake.fr/browser/trunk/libhb/enclame.c#L51 Changing line 51 to something like that (I'm not a programmer) lame_set_VBR(gfp, vbr_abr); lame_set_VBR_mean_bitrate_kbps(gfp, (<bitrate>)); produces an ABR file, doesn't it? Took from here: http://lame.cvs.sourceforge.net/viewvc/lame/lame/l...

Re: libsamplerate/libvorbis: newer versions are available

FAAC is pure crap. It's dead. No improvements in quality for years (or maybe decades? ). Unfortunately it's the only free (as free speech) AAC encoder available. And yes, LAME quality is better than FAAC even at 128kbps if VBR is used (Handbrake uses CBR). Vorbis is superior, close to a...

Re: root/trunk/CREDITS refers to unused libs

I forgot libtheora and libmkv. Here is an updated list, from "authors" files of contrib packages, based on svn3048. libmkv authors were obtained browsing the source. CREDITS file for HandBrake <http://handbrake.fr/> HandBrake uses many cool libraries from the GNU/Linux world. Thank their a...

root/trunk/CREDITS refers to unused libs

http://trac.handbrake.fr/browser/trunk/CREDITS

There's no more libxvidcore and libdvdcss.

libdts needs rename to libdca.

And is libfaad2 in use? If yes, add it.

Re: libsamplerate/libvorbis: newer versions are available

Now version 0.9.4 was released, maybe someone can take a look at these libraries for next release. And I add LAME to the list (and maybe libogg?). I think it's important have AAC alternatives updated, because for Windows and Linux users (us poor mortals without Core Audio), FAAC's quality notoriousl...

Re: Update libraries?

Given that is about 0.1% of the total CPU used by HandBrake during H.264/AAC encoding...anyone would care why? Rodney I really don't know what is the amount of total CPU use. But even with 0.1%, "dramatic throughput improvements" can give us improvments, like a total CPU use of 0.05%. The...

Re: Update libraries?

Up At least at libsamplerate you devs could take a look. According to src's history ( link ), libsamplerate version 0.1.5 and newer (current Handbrake trunk code uses 0.1.4) has "dramatic throughput improvements" (sic) (info here ). I have no tech skills to do that kind of work with source...

Re: libsamplerate/libvorbis: newer versions are available

Sorry if I posted at wrong place.

Well, the new libvorbis has some tunings at low bitrate and a security bug fixed.

BUT, this already have been posted here:

Next time better use forum's search function :(
