Re: 1280 x 720 or 960 x 540 for Apple TV (1)?
As long as the content is 24fps, 1280x720 will work on the AppleTV1.
The reason the preset uses 960x540 is to maintain compatibility with sources > 24fps.
The reason the preset uses 960x540 is to maintain compatibility with sources > 24fps.

Re: iTunes + 1080p + AC3 + Apple TV 2 + Projector.
I've long found that performing both save and optimize in subler (I use it for tagging) results in smoother playback for hd files, both with the appletv v1 and v2, and especially when soft subtitles are present. I'd recommend doing it for any encodes targeting the iOS platform; it only takes a few m...

Re: iTunes + 1080p + AC3 + Apple TV 2 + Projector.
Hi there, "You'll have to have seperate files, one 1080p and one tv2 compatible." I'm not sure that's the case. I've read on this forum that the apple TV can play 1080p itunes files. It just downres's them, so as far as I know I'd just need 1 1080p .m4v, etc. From what I can recall, there...

Re: New vs Old Apple TV Presets
In the testing done so far, vbv-maxrate and vbv-bufsize has not been needed to ensure smooth playback when streaming. Personally, I stream everything via 802.11n and have had no playback issues with SD or HD material encoded without these limits in place.

The preview images are only used by the program and/or user to assist with crop settings and encoding options (filters, etc). Your settings won't change when you start the encode.

thanks for your answer. i need to convert the mpg-2 layer in one of this formats MP4, DV, Apple Intermediate Codec, h.264, Photo supportet by imovie. someone hav done this before? regards If your goal is to get it into iMovie, Handbrake is not the tool for you. Re: what command-line tool reports MP4 chapter markers?
First of all, thank you developers, Handbrake is excellent! I use Handbrake to encode from DVD titles to iPod/iPhone MP4 files. My question is about the chapter markers. The chapter markers work properly when playing back a file in VLC, etc. However, I'm looking for a shell-friendly way to tell how...

Re: Any chance of subwoofer support in AAC downsampling?
Because of your wording, I think I get it. DPL2 itself doesn't support the .1 of the 5.1, so handbrake won't support it. Sound right? Dolby recommends ignoring LFE information when downmixing a 5.1 source to DPL2 unless you are certain that it contains unique information that is not included in any...

Re: Any chance of subwoofer support in AAC downsampling?
If you're talking about downmixing to DPL2, Handbrake adheres to the recommendations from Dolby and ignores the LFE track.mas5acre wrote:Just wondering about subwoofer support, as its the only thing keeping me away from handbrake and have used this awesome program before I realized there was no subwoofer support.

Re: anamophic for 4:3 material?
So which is recommend by the cummumity strike, loose or none for as sources? So in the case of hi def encodes am I getting a higher quality file by using custom anamorphic to change the 1280 by 528 into 1280 by 720? Does anyone else here do this? Thanks Yes, there are a few of us that do that. I've...

Re: Full DVD Quality Rips
Thanks for the quick reply TedJ. However, I tried your suggestion for RF=18, 16, 14, and even 12. I even used the settings I was previously using except with those same RF settings. In each case I found my original settings with ABR=4096 looked the best (at least to me... and I am extremely picky)....

Re: From DVD to MP4 - Best picture quality?
Anyone? For the few remaining DVDs I have to convert, I typically use the high profile preset with strict anamorphic and an RF of either 20 or 19.5 (depending on content). I gave up on trying to find the "perfect" Handbrake settings long ago as I've found myself re-encoding significant po...

Looking around the forum, you will find a few devs that have expressed interest in working on this, but have other commitments/life that take precedence. Just like the AC3 encoding functionality that was recently added, if you're patient it'll arrive eventually.

Re: Apple TV preset - why 960 max width?
Can someone explain why the Apple TV preset has a maximum width of 960? The Apple TV can handle 1280 width video so why not use that? Is it purely in the interest of reducing file size? The AppleTV v1 doesnt support 720p30, so the preset ensures device compatibility. With the latest firmware update...

Re: Does it hurt to leave Detelecine and Decomb on?
I tend to leave them on for DVD sources, but turn them off for HDDVD/Bluray sources (unless I know they will be needed, which is very rarely... maybe once in about 100 or so encodes so far). This results in a slight bump in encode speed.
