I have given up and used Handbrake to transcode it to my AppleTV2. I used the AppleTV3 setting and it looks terrific and the 5.1 sounds great on my Samsung Surround Sound in a Box...

Re: preset for bluray
Will Handbrake export the raw H.264 stream? Or other suggestions, such as FFMPEGX or others on Mac?

NOTE: The m2ts file will work in Toast to BR without any further encoding. The MP4 file triggers further encoding in Toast.

preset for bluray
I am able to use the raw output of my Haupaugge HDPVR-1212 for 720p/5.1 and use Toast 10 to burn it to BluRay format on a DVD-DL (with no further encoding required) so that I can play it on my Samsung BR player. I want to take some high definition 720p content with 5.1 sound from another source and ...

Video Passthrough
For those of us waiting for Handbrake to add video passthrough to its feature list (and hobbling along with the legacy VideoHub in the meantime), there is now MP4Tools:

True quick video and audio, as necessary, passthrough.

Re: aTV 2 profile play on aTV1?
The ATV2 setting should result in a noticeable difference on 1280x720 files that have a framerate of greater than 25 fps.
For frame rates of 25 or lower, the difference is primarily in smaller file size.

Re: HD Preset for Apple TV & Apple TV 2?
Use the AppleTV preset. If your source's framerate is <= 25 fps, increase the resolution manually. If you don't want to do it each time, create a custom preset based on the AppleTV preset. What if the source is greater than 25fps? Is there anything I can do via Handbrake? Thanks again! k. The ATVFl...

Re: Advice on why this won't play on Apple TV (1st Gen)
What are the files names? How were they ripped or transcoded? What version of iTunes? Can you post the complete Media Inspector output for both? Are you saying that it WILL stream from iTunes on the AppleTV1 (via Home Sharing)? "On the ATV1, they just don't show via my linked library, and when ...

Downloaded Subler and it is sure easy to use for this purpose...
Does allow the change AC-3 to AAC, but does not seem to allow for both; unless both already exist.

Re: Yikes. .mkv to .mp4 with 5.1 no re encode.
Si: Can you send me a small sample of one of your 1080p files, so that I can experiment on it for you (and me, too!). Basically you want to move the audio and video from the mkv container to the mp4 (m4v) container. I suspect that the legacy program VisualHub (based upon the ffmpegx program) may do ...

Because the people who provide support do so for free, their motivation comes primarily (if not completely) from the feeling of accomplishment they get from helping someone out. If that person being helped makes the act of providing support harder than it needs to be (the most common cause is being...

Re: Playing Max quality file on AppleTV 2 and modified Apple
My aim is to transcode the HD output of the HD-PVR so as to obtain the maximum quality afforded by the AppleTV 2 setting, while being able to continue to play the same file on [the] AppleTV Classic. Philosophical question; no need to reply if too busy! Curious -- after going through all of this eff...

Re: AppleTV 2nd generation but turn off CABAC
Yes, indeed, I mis-spoke...
Let me restate the question:
How do I modify the AppleTV(2) preset so that it always limits the resolution to a max. width of 960 pixels; as does the AppleTV(1) preset. Thank you!

Re: setting maximum resolution
You can't. Else the AppleTV preset would already be using it. The original AppleTV preset does indeed have it: Feed it 1280x720@30fps and you will get 960x540 output. Feed it 1280x720@24fps and you will get 1280x720 output. So what modification do I need to do to the AppleTV2 preset to get the same...

I need one more change to get this to work on the AppleTV Classic without the "fool iTunes" trick:
How can I set it so that the maximum resolution is automatically always 960 x 540 when the fps rate is > 25? Thanks!

Re: conversion from Hauppauge HDPVR 1212 to AppleTV
Yes, thank you. Some of my conversions are 24fps and of course I do not want them manually adjusted to 29.97. But I may not remember every time I convert from the HDPVR... How do I modify the AppleTV default setting so that it works every time without manual modification, and return it to true Apple...
