Re: New Version of Handbrake Won't Finish Converting a File
After you do the encode, click on Activity log, then "Open Log Directory". The most recent encode will be the newest file that has a name like "last_encode_log" followed by a number, ending in ".txt". The "large file size" is only an issue when a file exceeds ...

Re: Not a valid source
Without logs, everything is a guess. Are you trying to rip directly from the DVD, or are you using a ripping utility to get the video files onto disk? Ripping from optical media is tricky - the operating system has to acknowledge that the disk is there before anything can happen. If it doesn't, it c...

Re: "Large file size" button missing
If you don't have the check box, you are running a version that doesn't have the problem. And if you did, you wouldn't see the problem until you tried playing the file, after the conversion completed. So, your SUPPORT REQUEST should be made in the SUPPORT section, following the rules for a SUPPORT ...

Re: qsv_h264 not mentioned in the encoder wiki page
The wiki is out of date. From running "handbrakecli.exe -h": -e, --encoder <string> Set video library encoder Options: x264/qsv_h264/x265/mpeg4/mpeg2/VP8/theora (default: mpeg4) So "-e qsv_h264" would tell the CLI to use the QSV encoder for h.264.

Re: Problem with video size after compression
That is what bit-rate calculators should be doing for you. Handbrake does not have one, though, so if the bit-rate calculator you are using doesn't provide you with the size, you should ask whoever wrote it, "Why not?"

Re: Can't convert WMV to MP4
A quick check of the log shows errors where time stamps went backwards. You may need to run the file through a tool like Video Redo to correct the streaming errors. This problem also happens when recording "over the air" broadcasts, due to the redundant information inserted into the stream.

Logs are helpful because the actual settings used are visible, including those made by presets that you might not think important.

Re: Why Plain-text UTF-8 subtititles are changed to ASS format?
Internally, handbrake uses a common format for subtitles. This is so that only one interpreter is needed to burn them into the video, and for better compatibility if you're NOT burning them in. That format is ASS/SSA.

Re: How to Change Video Resolution
The command line interface (CLI) doesn't work by clicking on it. You have to open a command prompt, and enter a command string to run it. That command would look similar to this: "C:\Program Files\Handbrake\HandBrakeCLI.exe" -i "Z:\Kokkuri-San\Kokkuri-San HD09.mkv" -t 1 -o "...

Before one can suggest changes to a thing, one needs to know what the thing is now.
Logs showing an encode will give a lot more information than you've presented so far. That's why there's a pink box with red lettering saying it's required.

Faulting module name: ntdll.dll, version: 6.1.7601.19160, time stamp: 0x56bcd74c The error report says the issue is with the Windows DLL ntdll.dll, which handbrake called to do the navigation. That would normally indicate a problem with your .NET installation. While handbrake's GUI uses .NET extens...

Re: Handbrake not encoding a particular episode
Well, since handbrake isn't intended to rip directly from optical media, there isn't going to be a whole lot of effort put forth to make it do so. If it works, great - if not... well, there are tools out there designed to rip video from optical sources, and make an effort to deal with weird disk aut...

Without the log from an encode, we don't know what audio you have to start with. That said, "AC3 Passthru" is going to give you the best sound available. Everything else involves re encoding the audio, which will have degradation. You cannot improve audio by increasing the bits thrown at i...

You can create a preset with your selections, and save it under a name of your choice. Then select that preset to make it active, and add the movies to the queue. Check the first few to make sure the proper audio/subtitle tracks are being selected in the right order, and continue. Or, you can learn ...

Re: Automatic English Subtitles When Needed...
What you are asking about are commonly referred to as "forced" subtitles. There is a long thread in the support section on subtitles, but it doesn't exactly match your question - it covers how, and the variations that can occur. If you want the forced subtitles "only when needed"...

One possibility to throw out....
The last time you ran handbrake, did you browse to a location that is not currently available?
If so, start by typing a partial path that IS available to you, THEN hit browse, and see if you get a different response.
