Re: No AC3 5.1 on some blu rays?

I have the Blu ray disc ripped to my hard drive. I have eac3to and the gui both in the same folder and i open eac3togui. I can't import anything into ac3togui because it doesn't recognize any of the files in the blu ray folder. Do I have to convert the blu ray to a mkv file first or what am I doing...

Re: No AC3 5.1 on some blu rays?

I need to get the ac3 track. is there some sort of tutorial on how to use eac3to? I downloaded it but i can't figure out what i need to do with it. So, eac3to extracts the ac3 audio and does it combine the audio and video back together or can handbrake do that? This was something I was planning on ...

Re: No AC3 5.1 on some blu rays?

Handbrake cannot convert DTS to AC3. AFAIK, all of the Bluray discs you've mentioned feature either DTS-HD or DTS-MA audio tracks. If you need AC3 (like for AppleTV playback), you'll need to convert them with another tool (eac3to is the one I use) first. If the Bluray features Dolby TrueHD soundtrac...

Re: Unencrypted Bluray support

Finally received a Bluray disc that didn't have a DTS soundtrack (those need to be converted to AC3 before running through Handbrake for AppleTV compatibility)... Was able to scan and successfully encode a couple episodes from the first disc of "The Big Bang Theory - Season Three" that was...

You could use something like eac3to and/or tsmuxer to combine into one large .m2ts file.

Re: Blu Ray, AppleTV, DTS, 5.1 Sound

Even though I only own Macs, I prefer to use VMWare/Windows for my Bluray/HDDVD workflow. The forum post below outlines the tools that I use to process these sources before feeding them into Handbrake; it is a little dated (and I'm too lazy to update), but still works as outlined. http://forum.handb...

Re: DTS in an M4V container, ever?

You know, I still can't get my head around what would be the reason for DTS getting Apple to go to the trouble of including the spec in the format and then not bothering to release their own methodology to get it to work? Are they retards or something? It's one less thing they would need to do at t...

Re: Avg Bitrate or RF for BD backups?

I agree with what others have already posted... RF20 is probably too high for 1080p output. I use RF20 for my Bluray->AppleTV encodes (more so I can use a single preset for everything than anything else), but would look at using RF23/24 if I were maintaining the source resolution. I can't think of a...

Now that ripping dvd's are legal if you use it for educational purposes, such as ripping your owned dvd (not rented) dvd to your ipod or whatever,
How would this be an educational purpose?

Re: [Rejected] Presets for Target Size

Target filesize and a calculator, perhaps? Why would you need a calculator? The bitrates are already calculated by the target filesize option. It seems to me if you bother to even put the option of target file size in the application (even though it is not the purist's way) then at least make it a ...

Glad you were able to get what you wanted... I use B&N extensively for chapter titles for my Bluray/HDDVD encodes since they typically do not carry over when extracted using eac3to.

Re: Best quality convert MKV rip to M4V apple TV HD

Why would you need to see logs? I've extensively used the Apple TV and DynaFlashes (SD & HD) presets in the past and I like the topic starter are both saying we're dissatisfied when the source is a 720p MKV. Capacity nor time is an issue, we want the best quality rips possible that will play wi...

For starters, the RF value that you've chose is completely wasteful, and likely to lead to buffering/playback issues on the AppleTV.

Re: Ideal file-size for DVDs?

Don't mention scene releases here.

I think you'll find a lot of people here agree that using RF16 for DVD sources is quite wasteful. The general consensus is that RF 19.25-19.5 will result in encodes that are as close to transparent as you're going to get without wasting bits.

These two presets were designed to produce near-identical output quality, but the Universal encode will generate larger files to do so.

Re: AppleTV Custom Presets - 0.9.4

Just a heads up, starting with SVN 3424, custom AppleTV presets will need to be updated to include "b-pyramid=none" to maintain compatibility. I didn't catch this at first and ended up having to re-encode a couple Bluray discs over the weekend.

Re: HOWTO:Blu-ray "Forced" Subtitles-Avatar, District 9, etc

Just wanted to say that I finally got around to re-encoding the three Bluray discs that I have which use forced subtitles (Iron-Man, Gran Torino, Taken) and this method works beautifully. I did notice some issues with preview images (picture distorted, gray blocking) and auto-cropping not working, b...

Very nice... although its sad to see the AppleTV go from being the most powerful "modern" iPod-like device to the bottom of the barrel, but I guess that's what happens when you don't get a hardware refresh after three years.

I've always been impressed with Macworld's writeups on Handbrake... they tend to use recent screenshots and do a halfway decent job of explaining features and basic settings.
