Looks like you may have a previously-downloaded dodgy copy of the contribs... delete the contribs zip file, and try running make again?

D'you know, although I'm not sure I should like it (yellow, orange and red?!? That can't work!), the design actually really works for me. Once you've got a pineapple icon, you might as well go the whole hog :) As for my beautiful CD header background, that wouldn't work here at all. I say, let's go ...

I've been doing lots of testing on this today, and no matter what I try, it's definitely an iTunes bug. If you have an m4v file with a 2.0 *and* a 5.1 AAC track, iTunes will set the metadata - but if you just have 5.1, it refuses to do so. Very frustrating! iTunes also ignores our chapter track for ...

Check out this article for the reasons QuickTime (and therefore Apple TV) can't do AC-3 passthru at the moment:

Something I forgot to mention - it would be interesting to see what QuickTime (Player, iTunes, Front Row) does with a mono track when playing it over the optical output of a mac mini. QuickTime might simply mix the mono up to stereo; or it might use the same matrix-encoding it uses with 6-channel AA...

Hi ActiveFan, The current version - MediaFork 0.8.0b1 - will extract a 1.0 AC3 track to stereo, upmixing the mono source to both left and right. The upcoming version - Handbrake 0.8.5b1 - will extract it as a true mono track, if you're exporting your audio as AAC or Ogg Vorbis. Most media players wi...

Hi there,

Handbrake isn't a DVD copier. It's just about converting DVDs to video files for playback on a computer or other media device. Besides, doesn't your full feature DVD already play on your DVD player?

hawkman: I found that too. Although for .mov trailers with 5.1 audio, I couldn't even delete the existing artwork, let alone add a new one. Maybe there's some assumption going on in iTunes that 5.1 = trailer?

hey ho...

Hawkman,

Are you using iTunes 7.1 / QuickTime 7.1.5? There were some issues with 5.1 movies on earlier versions (on Intel, at least) - could that be making a difference?

Hawkman: the next release of Handbrake will mix 5.1 down to DPL I. The current release - MediaFork 0.8.0b1 - still mixes 5.1 down to stereo.

I've been using the AC3 5 ch audio encoding, and have the Apple TV connected with optical audio. I haven't had any audio dropouts yet, but have spent most of time testing video settings, not audio. Dro: are you using MediaFork 0.8.0b1 and passing-through a Dolby Digital AC3 track (i.e. not extracti...

Hi hawkman,

Try deleting the existing artwork (the auto-generated one based on a frame of video). You should then be able to add your own. I think you're only allowed one artwork for these video files.

Hi cdylanm,

Which version of Handbrake or Mediafork are you using? In the current version - MediaFork 0.8.0b1 - the selection of a second audio track isn't available, so you wouldn't be able to extract both anyway. This should be fixed in the next release.

Hawkman, I think most people think they're hearing DPL II, when in fact they aren't. Without test files it's very hard to test this conclusively. The separate Center channel from QuickTime is probably throwing them off. This article backs up the testing we did with kevinbal on the #handbrake IRC cha...

Hi thyon, AAC/5.1 isn't AC-3. They are entirely different formats. The former is six discrete AAC channels in one soundtrack; the latter is an encoded 5.1 mix (aka Dolby Digital). 5.1 amplifiers need the encoded AC-3 to support 5.1 over an optical (Toslink) cable. Handbrake already allows you to ext...

Hi Diranged, What happens if you force the encoder to expect Pro Logic I (and / or II)? Does it extract the center channel separately? Pro Logic I and II are technically just stereo signals - the multi-channels are matrix encoded into the stereo. See what happens if you get it to assume they are Pro...

Hi Cyander, No worries! I agree about text subtitles - OCR is a biggie, especially given the subtitles could be in any number of languages... Good call on the "applying chapters" tool. Rhester was asking me about this earlier on - I'm sure there are lots of Handbrake users who have many ri...

Hi Cyander,

Sorry about that :( I was kind of 3/4 of the way there...

If it helps, our patched mp4v2 now has a function to add text tracks, so you can probably use that to add a subtitle track with text subtitles if you want :)

Don't be put off - and best of luck in sorting the subtitles!
