Hi awk, I've only been using XCode myself, so this isn't too much of a surprise. I though make just launched xcodebuild (which uses the projects), I'll look into it for the next update. Me too (but I've never really looked into it). Yep - if it's a transport stream with MP2 stereo audio that's not g...

Hi awk, I've just tried the patch against rev 553, and it applied cleanly. Whilst I can't "make", I can build the HandBrake target in Xcode with no problems. However, when I launch HandBrake and select an MPEG transport stream via the "DVD Folder / image" browse button, I get an ...

There's a known problem in HandBrake 0.8.5b1 for DVDs with MPEG2 audio. This will include virtually all home-made DVDs, as most DVD burner apps will be encoding your audio in MPEG2 format. It should be working - all the infrastructure is in place to support MPEG2 audio in HandBrake - but something i...

"Unknown" is just the language of the track, not the audio format. What really matters is the codec used to encode it. For the stereo track on the DVD, does it get listed in HandBrake's "Audio & Subtitles" pane as: Unknown (AC3) (2.0 ch) ...or... Unknown (MPEG) ...or... Unkno...

Hi ZigZag, To test the whole process - from HandBrake ripping to playback - use the test disk image I created whilst coding the DPLII support. It's available here: http://www.maurj.com/5_1_DOLBY.htm Right-click on 5_1_DOLBY.iso.zip to download it, then unzip it and rip 5.1 AC3 audio with HandBrake. ...

Hi awk, Just wanted to say: as a HandBrake developer, this is the feature I'm most interested in for the next version :) I've got a bunch of mpeg2 transport streams from my EyeTV, and if I play them as-is on my Apple TV then they come over all interlaced and icky. I need to transcode them to mp4, wi...

You could always rip as one file rather than several, and use the new "chapter markers" feature in 0.8.5b1 to navigate from chapter to chapter?

Hi madmax019,

Possibly these subtitles will be on the original video itself, rather than being included as a separate subtitle track. Do you see them when you rip the DVD with HandBrake? Or are they only there when you watch on a DVD player, and not in the output of HandBrake?

Hi awk,

You're spot on. There might be a render thread in there too, I think, to resize / crop / deinterlace. But it's still not guaranteed to fill all processor power all of the time.

Hi there,

That does seem rather slow. I wonder if it might be a DVD-mastering issue, specific to that DVD, causing a bottleneck when reading from the the DVD. Do you get faster speeds for other DVDs? Or is that rip still going? ;)

Hi there, Dolby Surround, and Dolby Pro Logic II, are ways of encoding more channels into a stereo signal. So you still only end up with two actual channels in your file - but amplifiers which support Dolby Surround / Dolby Pro Logic II can extract the extra channels back out again. It's really very...

Hi numbers987654321, TBH, I'd initially considered adding this for a future version, but the filesize (1gb for audio?!), due to the lack of an open-source Apple Lossless implementation, makes it a fairly low priority. Of course, this being open-source, you could always have a go at coding it yoursel...

If you have a 6-channel audio device, set to use a 5.1 surround channel mapping in "Audio MIDI Setup.app", and you select this device in VLC, then VLC will play the 6 channels separately through that device. It'll still say it's playing "stereo", though. I've just tested this her...

Hi Pimpbot,

You have to select a valid input before you can do anything with the Handbrake interface (it was like this in 0.8.0b1 too). Select a valid DVD, VIDEO_TS folder or disk image via the "browse" button, and you'll be good to go.

This won't be anything to do with Handbrake - we don't add any extra tags to Handbrake's output movies.

In iTunes, make sure that you've set the Season Number and the Episode Number on the Video tab of the file's Info window. This should sort out the sorting in iTunes / FrontRow / Apple TV.
