Re: Why aren't "Additional Options" commands working for me?
The field is for the video encoder options… so it has its used. I don't know if there is a plan to add the rotate function to the gui.

Re: Why aren't "Additional Options" commands working for me?
The Additional Options field is for the video encoder. It used to work on the Windows version because it passed the options directly to the cli. But the mac app does not use the cli.

You don't need a different nightly build, just make a copy of the app and run it.

Apple's icons in Yosemite have still got shadows and textures. The current icon looks better on it then the proposed one imho.

HandBrake uses the 4:2:0 yuv format internally, so you're losing chroma informations if your source is rgb. Or something similar

Re: JVT/AVC vs H.264
The Mp4 file format has a field to set the name of the encoder, if that's really what's breaking Internet Explorer I don't how what to say…
by the way the latest HandBrake nightlies doesn't use mp4v2 to mux the mp4, so it shouldn't set the compressor name anymore.

Re: Handbrake Failing to Scan Files
Those fourcc (CAVC, CAC3) were used only by Perian to decode mkv that had header compression turned on in QuickTime. They aren't exactly a standard. I guess ffmpeg has got an workaround for it.

There is already a fork if you want to try QuickSync on OS X: https://github.com/galad87/HandBrake-QuickSync-Mac
Feel free to fork it and update it to the latest HandBrake revision.

I remember libav handling the b-frames delay edit list differently. It might be that too.

Re: Proper settings
In iOS 7 or Mac OS X 10.9 the subtitles settings are customizable in Settings/SystemPreferences. on iOS: Settings -> General -> Accessibility -> Subtitles & Captioning. on OS X: System Preferences -> Accessibility -> Subtitles & Captioning. On the AppleTV I don't remember, but it's somewhere...

Re: Bluray to MP4 with softsubs
The thing is a bit user-unfriendly, but if you want OCR for languages other than English you need to download manually the tessdata file and put them in the right folder. I think it the procedure is written somewhere on the Subler faq. I never tested Japanese, but I think it will be worse than Engli...

Re: audio out of sync
I think Rodeo meant "Save as", not "Export". "Save as" will save only the necessary part in the new mov file. But cutting a video format that uses b-frames like h.264 will still need a bit of edit list work if you don't cut it on a idr frame. The best solution is to con...

Re: AC3 5.1 and iTunes
The iTunes files use Apple's drm. That means the ac-3 track has got a different fourcc (the 4 characters code that identify the audio format), Perian's decoder decode only unencrypted ac-3. As for why you can passthrough the iTunes file ac-3 but not HandBrake ac-3… it might just be that no one at Ap...

Please make sure you are using the latest version (or nightly). If you see the issue again, open Activity Monitor and check the App Nap column of the Energy tab. If App Nap for HandBrake is set to yes there is a problem. But please use the latest HandBrake version.

Re: Moov Atomic size (Control, set chunk size, etc)
HandBrake writes additional informations the player can use to seek faster that premiere probably doesn't write. Plus HandBrake uses vfr, that means every frame might get a slight different length, meaning more space used in the index. But the moov is usually so small compared to the actual file siz...

And your point is? He can change the color profile in system preferences to make it display exactly like Vlc. There is even a profile already made.

Re: How to fix Handbrake -> Quicktime = dark video (gamma?)
I don't know about how they play "fine" in vlc. It's like displaying a image with a color profile without respecting the color profile, it doesn't look fine to me. The only comparison you can make is with how they play compared to a broadcast monitor or another color managed app.

You should try to set the "Fallback" reference of the AC3 track to help the ATV recognize the audio pair. Subler let you set it.

If it's just your personal preference, you can calibrate your monitor (manually in System Preference or with an hardware device). VLC will continue to look the same tough, because it is not color managed.

Re: How to fix Handbrake -> Quicktime = dark video (gamma?)
For example vlc and mplayer on Mac OS X are not color corrected. That means that even if you change the color profile in System Preferences, the image won't change at all. Here a screenshot, I had selected the BRG color profile, it swaps colors. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/34821905/player-cc...
