Do the later versions of the Mac Mini read BD discs or do you use an external drive.

If external; any advice?

Playing Max quality file on AppleTV 2 and modified AppleTV 1

Why would you need to do such a thing? Rodeo: thank you for all of your continued assistance! I am creating a so-called AppleTV 1.5 default setting: I own two AppleTVs: A 2nd Generation and a 1st Generation "modified" to include: a) AFP, so that I can move files directly to the AppleTV Cl...

Re: AppleTV 2nd generation but turn off CABAC

How can I use the AppleTV 2nd generation setting and turn off B frames? The options under Advanced for B frames are a bit more challenging that just turning off CABAC. Do I turn both Pyramidal and Adaptive off? Thank you! Just set bframes to 0 and don't worry about the rest... however this thread i...

AppleTV 2nd generation but turn off CABAC

Is there a way to select the AppleTV 2nd generation setting, but turn off CABAC, so that it uses CAVLC coding instead? Thank you.

max 960x540 HD resolution for AppleTV

In comments to his recent review of El Gato's Turbo.264HD software only product, the author from MacWorld suggests that Handbrake will only transcode up to 960x540 even if the frame rate is 24fps (and hence the AppleTV will support 1280x720). He used a sample episode of Glee at 24fps for some of his...

DVD does not complete after 100% encoded

I recently purchased a documentary on DVD in NTSC format directly from the European producers. I notice that the DVD was authored to contain only one chapter that is the full length of the program (85 minutes). I also notice that the post "Problem w/ decoding DVD w/ 1 60-min ch vs. 6 10-min chs...

Adding to Queue crashes HandBrake

On TV episodic DVDs I like to add each episode to the Queue and then start the transcoding. But on some rips HandBrake crashes when I attempt to change the episode (title) or change the file name. I use the AppleTV default with two changes: Deinterlace-Slow and generally turning off the 2nd Audio tr...

Crash when ripping Panasonic DVD Recorder DVD-R

I have archived some TV episodes to a single layer DVD-R using my Panasonic DVD Recorder set at EP mode to obtain 6 hours of content. It accomplishes this by reducing both the resolution to 352x240 (320x240 anamorphic) and bitrate, with of course a reduction in quality. I use the AppleTV default set...

Re: VHS tapes to JPEG

I assume that you mean VHS to digital, and mpeg-2 or mpeg-4 at that: I have used a Panasonic VHS --> DVD Recorder combo unit for years. I record to a DVD-RW and copy the resulting DVD to my Mac Mini. I then use MPEG Streamclip to edit and/or convert to h.264 for my library and AppleTV. I then erase ...

Re: VHS home movies to DVDs

Combo VHS to DVD Recorder I have used a Panasonic model for years. I like the Panasonic models, because they support 640x480 at the 4 hour as well as 2 hour mode (but at a lower bit rate), so that longer programming can still look as good as the original VHS. Many of my VHS' are as much as 30 years ...

Re: AppleTV Custom Presets - 0.9.4

Fair response, but "simple" is relative, as much of the posts in this thread will attest to... I just assumed that perhaps McFunkerson wanted a complete answer, if he really wanted to utilize the 1280x720 @ 30fps option. And if he does, using the "fool iTunes" trick is very simpl...

Re: AppleTV Custom Presets - 0.9.4

a) Has Apple's official limits been tested, can you push 1280x720 @ 30fps and still run ok? Yes, it's been tested. If you want 1280 x 720 resolution, framerate may only go up to 25.00 fps. Technically that is an incomplete answer -- the question is really: (a) can the stock AppleTV play 1280x720 @ ...

Mac users need to express interest in capturing HD

An engineer of the Hauppauge HD-PVR 1212, which runs on Windows and Linux HTPC software, is looking for interest in the Mac community for a software capture program that he is developing: 1. This is the only consumer priced device that currently exists that will digitize HD content from the analog c...

Re: Going from 720p/59.94 to aTV

Excellent results have been achieved converting 720p59.94 H.264 CABAC to 720p29.97 H.264 6Mpbs that will play on the AppleTV, with either: 1. An upgraded AppleTV that uses SSH or AFP to send the files over to it; or 2. A stock AppleTV so long as the "fool iTunes" trick is used to fix the f...
