When you created this directory, did you decrypt the DVD with something as you copied it, or just do a raw dump of the files?
Handbrake does not do disk decryption by itself.

Re: No Valid Source Found on various files
Ripping with MakeMKV right now might be a problem - the beta test key expired a few days ago, and the author hasn't put up a new one yet. So you have to set your system date back before starting MakeMKV, or it will say it is too old. After it is running, the date can be reset to current.

Not sure what the issue is. I've opened both of your test files, scanned them, and even encoded them. The logs show no anomalies.
My test was done on Windows 7, however.

Re: Settings for sharpening videos?
There are no settings in handbrake that will truly "sharpen" a video. There are some that could make the variations between colors less smooth, but "sharper" requires some frame-by-frame analysis that an encoder isn't going to do.

Re: Blu-ray and subtitles to MKV
Since current versions of handbrake insert PGS subtitles into MKV files just fine, you are likely suffering from "did I really request any subtitles be added?" syndrome. Log files would show that.

Bradley, did you read some of the reviews on the Intensity, where the hardware requirements are mentioned?
Probably just fine for recording low-res sources like are being discussed here, though. Unless your USB chip set is not up to snuff.

Re: Hardware Equipment
Get a high-quality video encoder that has composite and S-Video inputs, and then use whatever appropriate player for VHS, LaserDisk, Beta, or whatever. The better your analog-to-digital recorder, the fewer problems you'll have later. There really isn't a need to use DVD as an intermediate step. If y...

And also the template does not seem to enforce putting quotes around the input and output paths.
However, "Alert and Convert" seems to be an abandoned (that is, unsupported) project, as the company's domain is "parked" with no content.

Re: AUTOMATIC CONVERSION: Same name but different folder?
Your template looks like a printf() function template, which is then used as part of a shell script that calls handbrake.
As rollin points out, your question is for whoever wrote the program that computes the values going into that shell script.

Re: Can't Enable Quick Sync On Windows 10 Without Monitor Plugged In to IGP
The problem is that the registry work-around that was available in Win 7/8 was specifically disabled by Microsoft for Win 10. The simplest "fix" is to plug a fake monitor adapter, also known as a "Display Emulator", into the motherboard port. I found that it was better to use ano...

Re: 0.10.5 x86_64 MP4 file freezes once per minute
Did you finalize the DVD before moving it to handbrake? Also, the large number of audio sync errors is consistent with other threads here of over-the-air video streams having issues with jumping time stamps. Unfortunately, the "best tool" for what you need to do isn't available for the Mac...

Re: really grainy video.. how to fix?
MakeMKV does no compression on the video - it's just as it comes off the disk. Handbrake can be used on the MKV file and, converting the video to h.264 compression, will shrink the size significantly. How significantly? Depends upon the source and your preferences. The "Normal" preset work...

Re: Crash right after start of ripping
For future reference, when looking at Windows events, you can open the event viewer, find the event in question, and use copy and paste to post the text from the event. From your ability to encode using other presets, the one preset probably is corrupted. I would rename it to get it out of the way, ...

Re: really grainy video.. how to fix?
Apparently you aren't decrypting the DVD, which is why the video looks so bad.
Tools like MakeMKV and others are designed to rip video from disks (unlike handbrake) know how to deal with encryption, and generate files that work well with handbrake.
