Re: DVD Disc Name to Title Name Database
Hi Joel; First most of the code is Python ATM so for broad strokes we are most of the way there. The gotcha on the other hand is something that I am recoding to have at least linux and windows counterparts, essentially the hashing algorithm in libdvdread which is you get the HandBrake source and bu...

Re: Encoding settings for playback on Wii?
The method most people are using is to stream flash video to the Wii's browser using TVersity or Orb. It's not bullet-proof though as I have read that memory issues on the Wii may cause stutters, crashes, etc. The that end I was wondering if anyone has found a sweet spot for transcoding to the Wii....

No prob, I'll send it to you when/if I compile it (probably within the week). ^__^hokie17 wrote:I looked into that but it's a little over my head. If you get it compiled and figured out, I'd like a copy, please.

Re: AppleTV: Always defaults to "Commentary" audio track?
Audio 2 dts to ac3 ? Haha, I know. It was done in the cli on accident. as I was just referencing tracks as numbers & naming them "Source 1 DM"; "Source 1 Sur", etc. Didn't even realize there was a dts track in there until i wrote the above post (as i needed to make the track...

Re: Chapter Creation from new encodes
I figured out how to do it without reencoding... This may be old hat, but if you choose Export to MPEG4 in SimpleMovieX, it uses the QT libraries. You can select Passthrough for video and audio and it won't reencode. I'm not sure, but you may need QT Pro for this to work (I do). The only downside i...

Re: AppleTV: Always defaults to "Commentary" audio track?
I haven't tested the AG theory yet. But i forgot to mention earlier that in my last testing; there was some correlation between the ordering of tracks in the ATV. It goes like this. -All AC3 tracks (somewhat paired with their AAC) -All AAC tracks (somewhat paired with their AC3) 8 tracks: -English [...

Re: DVD Disc Name to Title Name Database
Also (in pre-release versions) I am tucking additional or special HandBrake commands, etc so if a particular disc is notorious for having a crappy quality, steps can be taken to automatically get the best of what you have. There are other advantages here but these are the ones that are really worki...

Re: AppleTV: Always defaults to "Commentary" audio track?
I doubt having multiple alternate groups is going to work, a testfile of mine showed that the second AG gets ignored by both the QuickTime Player and iTunes (don't have an AppleTV to test). I've had in each AG two tracks, one AC3 and one AAC. The first AG had the english tracks, the second the germ...

Re: Chapter Creation from new encodes
SimpleMovieX can create chapters, but can be iffy on being able to save without reencoding. Thanks, I'll look into that ^__^. That's a little odd that it's iffy about re encoding are not. I wonder what the conditions of that are ;P. It will want you to save as a .MOV not a .MP4. If you're more comp...

Re: AppleTV: Always defaults to "Commentary" audio track?
I am starting to think that audio track groups should be set differently. Apple's logic is "Alternate track groups are collections of tracks that represent some conceptual data but are appropriate for use in different play environments." ( http://bit.ly/cKsO ). Correct me if I'm wrong but...

Re: Chapter Creation from new encodes
The next version of HandBrake will be able to read MP4 Chapters. I see, that would be useful. But I don't expect that to be out til summer. But does anyone have any interim solutions in the meantime? As far as I've found so far, MetaX can take the movies I've re-encoded with 1 chapter and divide th...

Re: Can'r get audio to work (H.264)
Thanks! What confused me is that the wiki said ac3 will preserve audio "bit by bit" so I initially assumed MP3 too :-) Gotcha ;P. AC3 will preserve "bit by bit" (pass-through) only AC3 sources (such as DVD movies ;). Any other streams (video, audio, etc) have to be re-encoded as H...

Re: Can'r get audio to work (H.264)
Lol, mp3 is not an ac3 stream so you couldn't possibly pass it through.
So change "-E ac3" to "-E faac" and it'll work perfectly, presumably ;P.

Chapter Creation from new encodes
I ripped a few of my movies awhile back with an older (note: not AppleTV/iPhone compliant settings) when I first got them (and now some of them are quite scratched ;P), and as Handbrake now can re-encode files was wondering about the chapter creation of said re-encodes. By default, it seems, that ha...

Re: Apple TV: 720p Possible Without Jerking?
The AppleTV only supports 720p at max 24 fps. Nothing more, so anything your camcorder shot that was more than that is going to look jerky. Unless Apple comes out with a magical firmware that will somehow support more than that; I don't believe you have much choice. Sorry ;P That's what it says - b...

Re: AppleTV: Always defaults to "Commentary" audio track?
Okay, so I tried another encode (after the first two previously mentioned); with the format aac,ac3,ac3. But I also changed ALL of the names to non-default ones. So I have "Downmixed" (DPLII), "True Surround" (AC3), and "Commentary" (AC3), and this actually works. It a...

Re: AppleTV: Always defaults to "Commentary" audio track?
Apple has never given up any info on how the files are 'supposed to be' when using more than 2 audio tracks. Have you tried aac,ac3,ac3 ( the commentary being ac3)? I see. Good thing I'm a huge fan of REing anything I can haha ;). So far I've tried aac,ac3,aac only, but I will try aac,ac3,ac3 next....

AppleTV: Always defaults to "Commentary" audio track?
I'm working on re-encoding a lot of my DVDs to include multiple audio tracks (instead of the default AAC+AC3, two tracks) because I'm quite fond of commentary tracks ;P. But apparently the AppleTV can't seem to sit well with these 3 tracks apparently (Downmixed [AAC], Surround [AC3], and Commentary ...

Re: Sound Problems with Apple TV Setting
I know your question is "in general", but you might benefit from this forum more if you include logs with your questions. As you included Dark Knight in your question, you should post a log of your encode of the movie. You see, I could give you a suggestion, but without looking at the log,...

Re: DVD Disc Name to Title Name Database
I've thought about this before. & even started to code a solution/database for it. But I found, discident.com; and am testing it out to see if it's good enough so I wouldn't have to write my own. So far the DVDs I've tried to identify with the service are accurate. But I've still gotta do a bit ...
