Re: Serenity Using iPhone setting-No Sound

The default seems AC3 5.1. That's the source. The output is the popup to the right of that - the "mix". You want DPL II or below (DPL II is a stereo track that has surround sound information cunningly hidden in it - a suitable receiver can pick it out). Is there audio on your iPod? When y...

Reports have already suggested that iTunes sets a hard limit of 720*400 for the new iPods. They can also play 640*480. iTunes will only allow 640*480 video to be transferred to older iPods, however. This is pushing what the iPod is capable of playing. The chip isn't capable of playing anything over ...

OTOH, if you're ripping an awful lot of tv shows, and you're comfortable with AppleScript, you'll probably find that your own custom solution would be fastest. MetaX, though, is very much the safest route - and it has some great lookup features for movies, too.

If it's one title with several chapters, HB won't break it up unless you tell it to. However, if it's spilt over several titles - ie. non-standard - then you'll need to remaster it, or stitch the resulting output together.

The lowest common denominator is not the same as the highest. If I use the lowest common denominator for an iPod and Apple TV that would be 480x320, which would result in a poorer picture on the Apple TV. The highest common denominator would be 640x480. It would look the same on the iPod but better...

MTR is already a much better ripper than HB is. Really, you should be using MTR to process the DVD before feeding it to HB!

I suggest using your system's search feature to find it. If you specified an incorrect path, it may simply not exist (I don't know anything about the win gui's behaviour in this situation).

HB will be no faster with multiple drives. It would allow you to queue DVDs up, though. However, the sensible way to do that would be to use some other software - such as MacTheRipper on the Mac, or AnyDVD (I think) on Windows - to copy the DVD's contents to your HD. This is speedy, and HB can then ...

As Cav said, if you get the wrong content it is because the wrong content was selected. Sounds like you have the wrong soundtrack chosen, or (possibly) the wrong title.

Ah, bugger. This would certainly be a desirable feature in HB, though (resuming after shutdown, not killing your raid system ;) ).

It depends on what aspect ratio the material is. The fixed value is 480px wide; that's great for movies, but 4:3 material will become 480*368 (closest to 480*360 that's divisible by 16). 432*320 might be a good resolution to use on the iPhone for 4:3 content, but 480*368 does give you the luxury of ...

Because HandBrake is a crap ripper. Newer copy protection completely screws it over. Rip with MTR, encode with HB. Less wear on your optical drive, too. :)

ick. you're out of luck? Would be worth looking in DVD Player.app, use the navigation window to tell you which title/chapter you're in when the missing episode is playing. If you don't see those in HB, you probably can't encode them with 0.9.0.

Halted at which point? If you left the chapter markers on, then mkv files won't mux in 0.9.0. It's a known, fixed bug.

Fair enough. The preset has chapters on by default, at least in svn, hence my assumption. I don't have a lot of experience with mkv, I usually avoid it; jbrjake probably uses/knows it the most.

VLC crashing with mkv is quite common for me too, and not just with HB's output.

1. Chapter markers and mkv don't mix in 0.9.0. It's been a widely reported problem (that's a subtle way of saying, "Use the search function!" :) ), and was fixed some time ago. Pretty certain that's your issue. 2. I understand this is a QuickTime issue, although not one I've ever experienc...

Looks like things must have changed significantly in svn since the revision that patch is against. I'm slightly surprised, but hey. "patch unexpectedly ends in middle of line" on the last part generally means that the final line is missing a line break at the end - no big deal. "fuzz&...
