Re: .ts (1080i/AC3) encodes with choppy video and odd audio

Rhester responded to you the way he did because you told us the only reason you aren't checking the latest code is because you are lazy. Which is a mind-boggling thing to admit when you're asking someone else to *not* be lazy for you and do your own testing for you (at least I imagine that's why yo...

Thank you for the mature response. I am in process of downloading XCode 3.1.2 (996MB) and will proceed to attempt the build thereafter.

Re: .ts (1080i/AC3) encodes with choppy video and odd audio

And we aren't your personalized technical support monkeys. I realize that, and, after reading these forums for years, have come to expect no support from posting about issues with released, compiled versions of HB. How about you compile and test SVN head, and if you are still experiencing the probl...

.ts (1080i/AC3) encodes with choppy video and odd audio

Hello guys, The Quick: Source: 30sec snippet from the beginning of an old LOST episode now re-running on SCIFI Source is 1080i with AC3 audio Output is to standard AppleTV preset except to Detelecine and Deinterlace, and stereo audio only. The output, visual and auditory, is nearly identical if I le...

Re: [SVN 1913] "Slideshow" DVD converted with incorrect timing

Thanks for the reply, Rodney.

FWIW: I did discover that MPEG Streamclip does convert the DVD with correct timing. That's a good cross-platform choice for this functionality.

[SVN 1913] "Slideshow" DVD converted with incorrect timing

HB appears to incorrectly handle DVD "slideshows". This may be included as part of Bug #73 related to zero-length chapters. I'm thinking the images included in slideshow DVDs are individual zero-length chapters, but I'm not sure. HB does report the proper length/play time of the original D...

Re: Question about DTS pass-through and the ATv

There are DTS -> AC3 converters out there, such as http://schudy.de/dts/dts2ac3-e.htm , but I don't know if there's a cross-platform version of them. Since HB uses other open source code to do its work, this would seem to be the best option, but I don't know for sure. I haven't looked into that at a...

Re: Late 2008 MacBook / MacBook Pro GPU Video Decoding

Very interesting. Curious on the last point you made about Handbrake taking advantage: is this something that programs like Final Cut x, iMovie, and other non Apple software like MPEG Streamclip which do rely on Quicktime de/encoding will likely get a boost from?

Re: Going from 720p/59.94 to aTV

I got a decent encoding using these settings to go from a 720p to aTV:

Video: 944x528, H.264, 29.97fps, CQ 60%
x264 Options: bframes=12:ref=12:subq=7:me=umh:no-past-pskip=1:cabac=0:weightb=1:mixed-refs=1:merange=64:analyse=all:brdo=1:bime=1:no-dct-decimate=1

I'd use MPEG streamclip (it opens DVDs, right?) and export to Quicktime and select an audio-only format.

Re: Going from 720p/59.94 to aTV

Thanks, frankj. Do you have any tips about Advanced settings options to try and smooth things out? Oh, and one thing I found with 720p/59.94fps material: MPEG Streamclip, while it doesn't actually pass through the AC3 like it says it will, the resulting 29.97fps material is superior in recreating sm...

Going from 720p/59.94 to aTV

Hey all, I've searched around the forums for an straightforward answer, but finding none, figured to post up. Source is 720p/59.94 and I'm aiming at the AppleTV. I can either go 1280x720/24fps or lower frame sizes with 29.97fps. I've done some testing with 29.97fps, but was less than pleased with th...

Black Magic H.264 USB video capture

Saw this little diddy today in the MarkerTek catalog: http://www.markertek.com/SearchProduct.asp?item=BMD%2DVR&off=1&sort=prod&skuonly=1&search=BMD%2DVR&pagesize=20 If the software exists to record AC3 directly from an optical source, you should be able to plug in any component/T...

Re: Will detelecine work if video doesn't show 3:2 consistently?

I'll give it a try with a short clip. Hopefully, the AppleTV won't complain about 23.976 vs. 24fps per the spec.

Re: Will detelecine work if video doesn't show 3:2 consistently?

Thanks Jake.

Would I get better smoothness of motion converting to 24 or 29.97 fps? Quality and resolution I can adjust for the aTV based on which should get me the best motion.

Thanks!

Will detelecine work if video doesn't show 3:2 consistently?

Hey all, I was looking at a .ts of a, SD movie (528x480, 23.976 fps) in MPEG Streamclip and stepping through the frames. For several frames, it appeared to follow what the Telecine guide page talks about looking for with progressive and interlaced frames with 2/5 frames being interlaced. However, it...

Re: Fringe: AC3 has audio gaps converting for aTV

Thanks, df. I'll spend a little more time getting acquainted w/HB and what's available. I need to figure out the best compromises now for aTV encoding. The sources for 720p are roughly 59.94fps, but to get the max frame size of 1280x720 out of the aTV, you must encode at 24fps. Problem is, some of t...

Re: Fringe: AC3 has audio gaps converting for aTV

I'm enjoying this conversation with myself here. :) So, SVN1797 DOES fix the AC3 problem with 448kbps. The only last remaining problem I see is that even though I asked HB to use the source FPS, it created a m4v file with 59.99fps instead of 59.94 as it reported in the Activity Log when reading the ...

Re: Fringe: AC3 has audio gaps converting for aTV

FWIW, I haven't been around these forums more than about 1 hour now. I just went and noticed the SVN 1797 is available as a binary download, which, according to other spots around the Handbrake website, would not be available. So, I've downloaded SVN1797 and will see how it behaves in reference to t...

Re: Fringe: AC3 has audio gaps converting for aTV

Truly, I'm lost on how to get the MacGUI to allow me to capture the entire log file. After a few thousand rows it just drops the stuff off the top. But, since jbrjake thinks I'm an ass for not being able to figure this out, it must be possible. I went ahead and started and stopped the encode this ti...

...seems like you're going through a hell of a lot of effort before even checking if the problem is fixed in newer code. At least I assume you're using 0.9.2 -- since you've chosen to only provide the end of an activity log, the part that doesn't contain any helpful info, it's not possible to tell ...

Re: Fringe: AC3 has audio gaps converting for aTV

I'm wondering if this shouldn't be posted in the Bugs forum as I can reproduce this 100% reliably. When converting down to AAC Dolby Pro Logic II as the only audio track, the gaps are there as well. I am also pretty sure this isn't a source file problem as I can use MPEG Streamclip to export to Quic...

Fringe: AC3 has audio gaps converting for aTV

This is my first post here, so I'm probably going to screw this up. I've used HB for quite some time. The results discussed here are specific to released v0.9.2 MacGUI. Source1: First part of an episode of LOST Season 4. Format is TS. 1280x720, AC3 384kbps, 48kHz Output1: m4v for aTV. 640x352, 29.97...
