Re: HandBrake exits after first chapter

What did you use to rip / decode the DVD?

Have you tried disabling libdvdnav in the Preferences (restart of handbrake required)?

Re: Encodes aren't encoding to Target Filesize

So I have to make a blind guess on how much to tweak? Because the filesize varies from 20-30 MB off. I hope the Handbrake dev's will make a fix for this problem in one of the updates. Seems less than likely, as target file size is widely seen as the Least Good option. Constant quality is recommended.

Re: Best Settings for 42" HD TV?

Use the Apple TV preset appropriate for the generation of device you own. First gen = "Apple TV", second gen = "Apple TV 2" If you own the first gen Apple TV, you have a device with some notable limitations for encoding that will result in slightly lower quality than if you owned...

Re: Best Settings for 42" HD TV?

What sources are you using (DVD, Blu-ray, etc.)?

What is your playback device (VLC on your Mac, Apple TV, etc.)?

You'll never get quality BETTER than the source you started with. So if you're encoding from DVDs, for example, you'll never get better than DVD quality.

While not directly your problem, this:

is well into the realm of insanity. Sane RF values are 19-21 for standard def, and 21-23 for high def sources.

Re: Video Artifacts in Plex but not DivX Player

Is there a way to recall a history from the log. When it was finished, I did not save the log to a text file or anything (although I will start for this exact reason). If there is a way to recall the log, I will definitely get that in here. I will give the suggestion for Plex a try also. It makes s...

Re: Severe drop in fps with no apparent changes

Yeah that'll do it. FYI, I think the rationale is that they can't guarantee that the power adapter will be able to provide sufficient power during high CPU usage and they might have to fail over to the battery to supplement. Which seems odd, but glad you figured it out.

Re: Severe drop in fps with no apparent changes

Also, post an activity log from one of the older encodes that ran faster, so we can see if there are any noticeable differences. Encode logs are stored to disk at ~/Library/Application Support/Handbrake/EncodeLogs

Re: Out of Sync Audio

That doesn't help in the slightest. I am having the same issue: I own: (1) the French Blu-Ray of EMMANUELLE (2) the Anchor Bay DVD release of EMMANUELLE I am in the process of creating an MKV so I can mux the English audio dub onto the movie, since the French blu-ray only has French audio. So I own...

Re: codepaths for ATI Stream, Intel Quick Sync, and NVIDIA C

Again, you doubt quick sync can come close to x264... instead of guessing and doubting, lets look at the evidence. Right now there is only a tiny bit of evidence... Maybe not definitive... but points to quick sync being faster and better at the same time... If someone thinks that software will domi...

Re: Best Laptop CPU for Handbrake Encoding

I would suggest *against* using a laptop for transcoding movies, as mentioned above the cooling is often insufficient to sustain a high processor load for a long time. Most laptops are designed for brief periods/bursts of activity. You're going to be running this thing for HOURS to transcode HD vid...

Re: Ripping anime episodes

Unless the DVD was mastered to have a title where all the episodes play, you'll have to encode each individually. There are some third party applications that can join files (mkvmerge, for example).

That doesn't look like the AppleTV preset to me. That's another issue though. Under "Picture Settings" change Decomb to "Default" and try the encode again.

If you click on "browse" you should see all of your attached drives on the lefthand side of the window. If you want to save to a drive on a different computer, you'll have to mount it first in Finder (Go > Connect to Server), then it'll appear.
