While encoding using Handbrake, my macbook pro (SR 2.2 GHz, 2 GB ram, LED screen) gets up between 90 and 94 degrees celcius (according to smcfancontrol), and that's with my fans at max speed (6200 rpm). I have the same issue, btw. Here's a clumsy workaround: Open the movie. Hit command-j (assuming you're on a mac) or select window -> show movie properties. In there you can check or uncheck either audio track. If both are checked, you'll hear both tracks at once, but that will be pretty clear if you...

With the patch, almost all Firefly episodes are being scanned and encoding correctly now. As you predicted, there is still a bit of issue with darker episodes such as Our Mrs Reynolds (disk 2 ep 3), but nothing I can't handle manually. Changing that setting to 32 seems to have fixed it for Our Mrs Reynolds, and has reduced the Out of Gas cropping to only 2 pixels off the left. Ok, that's good. What about telecining from NTSC to PAL, instead of PAL to NTSC? It's only a 1 fps difference, I don't know how big a deal not having it is.

I've gone through all of my NTSC dvds now, and none others are having this issue. Same goes for UK PAL dvds. There seems to just be something about the French ones that's really weird. What more information could I provide that might help figure this one out?
