Re: STREAMING settings vs ATV preset

Re: Advice on Presets
I think the high profile preset also turns on Detelecine and Decomb, whilst the normal preset keeps them turned off. So if you have a non progressive source the high profile preset could take a lot longer than the normal preset though the results should look better too.

Re: handbrake doesn't encode dvd rips
DVDFAB 6 seems to have a habit of mangling one title rips more frequently than version 5 seemed to. You could try running FixVTS http://www.videohelp.com/tools/FixVTS Load the first VOB of the ripped DVD then use the Full DVD button. Then try HandBrake again on the VIDEO_TS folder. I have had some s...

Re: Any reason not to use passthrough for WDTV Live?
If the WDTV Live is the only target device for your encodes, and you are using the mkv container, then I cannot see a problem with just using AC3 or DTS passthrough, I have quite a few AC3 audio only mkvs and have had no issues. The only reason I tend to include an AAC 2 channel track (with Dynamic ...

Re: No title found, ripped with DVDFab6
Try running FixVTS http://www.videohelp.com/tools/FixVTS Load the first VOB of the ripped DVD then use the Full DVD button. Then try HandBrake again on the VIDEO_TS folder. This has worked for me in the past with faulty main title rips from DVDFab and others but no guarantees. FixVTS also runs like ...

Re: iPod Nano 5G settings
Ok I've used the following two encode methods to create files that successfully sync to my daughters 5g Nano. If she only wants to play the movie back on the device's screen then I use the Apple iPod preset. Using the Picture Settings you can tweak the width resolution up to as near to 376 pixels as...

Re: converting .ts to .mkv
If there is only one .ts file that i want to convert into mkv will i still have to use Mkvmerge? Also, i want to use tsMuxer in a powerBook G4, is there sutch an old version available? Last I looked tsMuxer didn't mux to mkv so yes you will need mkvmerge. Don't know about your second question, try ...

That would be to use tsMuxer to demux the individual streams, and Mkvmerge to remux them together as mkv.

Re: Encoding for WD TV Live
I can't speak for the Live but on the original WD TV, MKV is the way to go. The old anamorphic bug has been fixed in a firmware update. The WD TV supports AC3, MP3, AAC in MKV. I also think it supports DTS passthrough on the optical toslink output but not on the HDMI but I have not checked this. I a...

[PATCH] LinGUI Manual Options Box Tooltip
Unsure whether to post this in bugs or here, probably got it wrong anyways. I've just noticed that the tooltip on the H264 Manual Options String input box, no longer reflect the new x264 defaults after Changeset 2742. patch for same below. --- gtk/src/ghb.ui (revision 2934) +++ gtk/src/ghb.ui (worki...

Re: [svn2829] VobSub Subtitels in mkv do disappear too fast
That works for me John. Tested with quick two chapter encode, and vobsub subtitles in mkv generated via SVN 2917 display correctly on my WD TV firmware version 1.03.01.
Again I'd like to say thank you for your efforts in getting this resolved.

Re: Trying to encode a DVDFab Merge as one mp4 -- Help!
in the scene where Frodo wakes up in Rivendale, the audio skips ahead to the scene where Aragorn is first confronted about reforging the sword(right before Frodo gets Sting) I honestly don't know the answer and this may well be an issue with Avidemux or Dvdfab. However when ever I encounter A/V syn...

Re: Trying to encode a DVDFab Merge as one mp4 -- Help!
If you want to do this for free I would give Avidemux a try. My method would be as follows. 1. Rip the main title of disk one to hard drive with Dvdfab. 2. Rip the main title of disk two to hard drive with Dvdfab. 3. In Avidemux open the first vob in the disk one VIDEO_TS folder 4. Allow Avidemux to...

You could try Jake Wharton's mkvdts2ac3 script. Script + instructions and a list of the prerequisites are all on this page. http://github.com/JakeWharton/mkvdts2ac3/treeIf you would like to write down how you extract the DTS-track from a .mkv and convert it to AC3

Re: [svn2829] VobSub Subtitels in mkv do disappear too fast
Ok 1. Extracted the Vobsubs with mkvextract tracks movie.mkv 3:movie.sub 2. Opened movie.mkv in MkvmergeGUI 3. Using the Add button next to the Input Files box I added file movie.idx (this file generated in step one along with movie.sub) 4 Changed output filename to movie-test.mkv 5. Clicked on Star...

Re: [svn2829] VobSub Subtitels in mkv do disappear too fast
Thanks for all this effort John.
I've just extracted the subs with mkvextract and remuxed them with mkvmerge resulting in an mkv with two sets of identical subs. On the WD-TV one set stays on screen for about half a second the second set works correctly. Strange!

The patch doesn't seem to have worked, I'm afraid the embedded subs are still on the screen for only about half a second.

John if you would like to create that patch I will give it a go. However if you are busy on something that's a higher priority then I can wait, as the work around is simple enough and only takes a couple of minutes. WDTVC.com states that new firmware is due any time http://www.wdtvc.com/2009/09/19/n...

Re: [svn2829] VobSub Subtitels in mkv do disappear too fast
Yes same happens for me with HandBrake mkvs and the WD-TV. When I extract the Vobsubs from the mkv with mkvextract the external subs generated play back fine.
As the support for internal vobsubs in mkv is a new feature for the WD-TV, I too assumed this was a bug in WD-TV firmware.

Re: Need Help Encoding for WD TV HD
I have not seen any significant audio sync issues with mkv on the WD TV with V1.02.08, but I am in the UK and deal with primarily PAL sources. Which means that even when selecting a same as source frame rate I usually end up with a constant 25fps or thereabouts. If you select a specific 23.976 frame...
