Did you use a preset? What platform are you on?

Just a couple of the many unanswered questions you leave us to guess at.

Speaking of which, I'm afraid your own questions will have to go unanswered until you provide some more details to help.

Open the activity window in HB, then copy and paste at the end of the encode. Oh, make sure verbose logging is turned on in the preferences.

It's just possible that it's a setting on your DVD player to mutilate 4:3 content, too. ;)

I did rather wonder if you were trying to use Main profile h.264. Exactly why the low-res preset didn't work I don't know, maybe you changed something important. ;)

HandBrake only supports DVD-like input. No .avi, .mp4, .divx, .flv, .doc... Please read what it says at the top of this forum, and in every description of HandBrake.

When OS X tells you HB's died, you can view the details of the crash. That's what you should post. :)

It's also stored in ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/HandBrake.crash.log - along with every other crash, so just get the right bit of it!

Re: B&W or sound kills out post 15 minutes

Hey all. Sorry to be a bother as I am sure my answer is in the forums already, but I am lazy. That's about the worst way to start you could have chosen. Windows? Mac? You don't say. Are you running 0.9.9? It sort of doesn't sound like it. If you are, your log might be interesting. Use MacTheRipper ...

I assume you mean ripping, not downloading. And it sounds like you have a slow computer - I'm gonna guess a G4 of some kind?

Long encoding times are a fact of life with h.264. I suggest you use a different codec if you're not willing to invest that much time.

Not really. Whichever way iTunes supports subtitles, it would need an awful lot of work in HB. It's not just the flick of a switch and they're holding out on us, believe me. :)

You don't give anywhere near enough information. Post your entire settings, please, if you want help, otherwise there's nothing any of use can do.

Tip: use the iPod presets for iPod encodes.

Well, I haven't tried any higher than 6 reference frames or allowing 6 b-frames, but in tests it's been fine with everything I've tried except pyramidal b-frames.

Please don't confuse iTunes with the iPod. We're not. Sorry if it reads that way. Obviously all of these videos would play if transferred with something like Floola, as technical capabilities are based on macroblocks not dimensions. The only reason I'm dragging this on is because pizzaspecial says ...

I haven't tried using the file target size setting while using the iPod default, though. I realise this is a little off-track, but it's not sensible to use target size for playing on an iPod, really, unless you calculate it to remain under the iPod's maximum bitrate - and that rather defeats the pu...

That'll be main profile stuff then. High profile contains some stuff like custom quantization matrices - if you know what you're doing, it can give a great boost to your video; if you don't, it offers you little advantage. As I said, your main problem is the fact you're reencoding, not that you're g...
