A log that shows what you have would be nice. No, let's say it's pretty much required.
I transfer multiple subtitles to videos quite often, but not knowing what you have, it is hard to say, "Do this and it will fix it!"

Re: Handbrake seeing the DVD in pieces
Handbrake is not a "DVD ripper". Have you tried using something that is?
I personally use MakeMKV, but others exist.

Re: Setting for passthrough of eveything but convert audio
The video will always be processed - handbrake IS a video program, that does some other helpful things.
If you do not want the video processed, there are other tools. ffmpeg, for example, can be told to only process audio in the file.

Re: HandBrakeCLI audio not sync - DVD -> MP4
Ripping direct from encrypted disks is not supported by handbrake.
That's why most people rip the video with something like MakeMKV, then encode the MKV files that are generated.

Re: Serial cutting of a video file
Splitting a file will require running handbrake for each "episode" you want, so it isn't "one expansion." By frame doesn't always work out exactly, because you do not have individual "full frames" in most files. You have a base frame, and differences to move to the next...

Re: huge file and wrong time
Your snapshots are useless, other than to point out why you think something is wrong. It is a 3 hour 10 minute video from a DVD; expanding it to 12GB would be highly unusual, unless you encoded it to expand EVERYTHING, and remove compression. And it certainly wouldn't grown to 21 hours long. So yes,...

Is there a particular reason why you don't like the included high quality settings? They are bound to be better than what you get from your streaming service.

If you want them permanently synchronized, including them in the MP4 file would be appropriate. Although, usually the people who create SRT files include the sync data in the subtitle itself.

VOBSUB, like PGS, are usually pictures of the text, not actual text like would be found in a .SRT file. You would also have to do character recognition to make them into an SRT.

Re: Substitles don't show in MKV x265
I was looking at the M4V file with VLC version 2.2.6, which is "very old" but works for what I need. (It's old enough that it sees the "chapter" file that was generated by handbrake as a separate subtitle track). You must consider that I converted this from the original MKV file ...

Looking at Babylon 5 Crusade DVD, I see two English subtitle tracks. One is "all subtitles", the other is "forced only". Neither has "flags" that says "forced", so your settings won't find them to burn in. You should have gotten some subtitles set as a subtitl...

Re: Encoding is only using ~50% of CPU
Using a filter like nlmeans will cut your CPU usage quite a bit, as it will lock your encode to the speed it's working at. EVERYTHING has to pass through the filter, and that is one that takes a lot of CPU. Turning that filter off will help a lot.

Re: can't read DVD
Handbrake does not natively read DVDs. You can add libraries to it to give it that function, but that hasn't been part of handbrake for over a dozen years, for legal reasons.
Using a DVD tool like MakeMKV handles that.

Re: Ripping a (moderately) damaged DVD
It's faster ripping with an actual ripping tool like MakeMKV, and it won't just die when it finds a bad spot... but it might not continue past it. When you patch together handbrake to rip, the library you use doesn't have a lot of tolerance for defects. There is no guarantee that tools like MakeMKV ...

It would seem that the CLI is using the selection rules set up in the preset "HQ 2160p60 4K HEVC Surround", rather that being told what track to select. So, it would be best to see what that preset selects. You have two sources, but there are 3 selected audio sources per the log... the thi...
