Fixing FreeBSD i686/AMD64 compile issues
This is a new thread to separate out the discussing regarding compile issues on FreeBSD that was taking place here . I've started preparing unified diff patches for the issues listed and was looking into the build system to fix the remaining issues such as GCC version. Per the Linux build instructio...

Re: For those of you who want to run HandBrakeCLI in FreeBSD
FreeBSD uses an older GCC version in the base system which causes a lot of problems when using x264 to the point of requiring major system changes. I've been investigating Clang as an alternative build requirement, but that is just for FreeBSD 8.0+ The rest of the problems can be solved with a few c...

Does the video play in VLC or Mplayer?
That might be a good place to start debugging.

Re: dropped frames throughout the entire encode
RipIt does odd things to the DVD image. Open up Handbrake Preferences, Click on Advanced, and uncheck the box beside Dvd-Video: to (maybe) fix it. If you're ripping it directly from the DVD with Handbrake and seeing these types of issues, try to open the DVD Player.app once (close it after it starts...

Re: Latest Handbrake Snapshot AC3 Sync Issues
Correct they are already ripped, I am trying to convert via Handbrake. The DVD doesn't matter I've tried near a 100 most, not all, have lip sync issues. I am thinking it may be something with the FPS possibly, but I am still not sure. I may try an older version of Handbrake too, back in the .9.3 er...

Re: For those of you who want to run HandBrakeCLI in FreeBSD
We're going to be using the latest SVN for this since that is what I usually build. I haven't tested the latest SVN yet as I have nothing to convert, but it should work fine. This is going to assume you have all the software needed (yasm, gcc44, gmake, gtar binutils etc) installed. svn checkout svn:...

It looks like you're converting a DVD already ripped onto a hard drive.

Re: For those of you who want to run HandBrakeCLI in FreeBSD
Handbrake compiles on FreeBSD with some patches. You'll just need to make a few changes to the build scripts and some of the software it downloads. Example: The latest SVN code will download and attempt to extract a52dec-0.7.4.tar.gz when using gmake. The command it tries to extract with is: /usr/bi...

Re: Subler (like Muxo, maybe better?)
I decided to give converting something with subtitles another try since Subler is now at such an advanced stage of development and even Handbrake has basic SRT support. Does anyone have a workflow that would allow the conversion of an MKV with SubStation Alpha subtitles to M4V with Soft or Burned Su...

Problems with languages on some DVDs
I've seen this on one or two DVDs before, but it is rare. The DVD I'm working with here is: The Third: The Girl with the Blue Eye: Vol. 3: Gravestone The tracks under Audio Tracks (when selecting the Audio button/tab) usually correctly show English if available and Japanese if not. These DVDs contai...

Re: Subtitles on apple tv v0.94 (64bit)
It seems a too simple, but that is essentially it. .mp4 will not show your soft subtitles while .m4v will show them. Just make sure you have the correct file extension.elangsru wrote:Is it just as simple as changing mp4 extension to m4v? So that apple tv will recognize the subtitleformat?

WDTV / WDTV Live: How to disable chapter name display?
When I am watching video from Handbrake on this device it will show the name of each chapter below the video as it plays. I really hate that, but I can't figure out how to disable it on the player. Google has turned up zilch.

Re: Why handbrake?
1) It is unique. There is no confusion when someone tells you "Use Handbrake".
2) It is fun. Open source projects don't need the same type of marketing that commercial projects do so they can come up with fun names.
DragonflyBSD, Handbrake, and dozens of others all do this.
