Re: BD/AVCHD Compliant h264 Output / Presets

@mduell: Here's the problem. I live in NTSC land (23.97, 24, and 29.97 only). If I want to take a video from my Panasonic camera and burn it to blu ray, I have to convert it from it's native 25fps to 29.97fps. The whole NTSC vs PAL notion is entirely outdated; I'd be amazed if you could buy a BR pl...

Re: BD/AVCHD Compliant h264 Output / Presets

Thanks Rodeo! Now I can move on. @mduell: Here's the problem. I live in NTSC land (23.97, 24, and 29.97 only). If I want to take a video from my Panasonic camera and burn it to blu ray, I have to convert it from it's native 25fps to 29.97fps. Same with some Region B movies and even worse with youtub...

Re: BD/AVCHD Compliant h264 Output / Presets

There's 3 Veteran Users and 2 HB Team Members in this thread and nobody can tell me if I can set HB up for 3:2/bff using x264? :P

Surely someone can answer this simple question. :) Perhaps I'm using the wrong terminology?

Re: BD/AVCHD Compliant h264 Output / Presets

I have the up-scaling thing figured out now but it's not as straight forward as the help file appears, at least to a beginner like myself. Perhaps you could share this so other people can see. I had a post all typed out and realized I forgot one thing so I decided not to post anything until I got t...

I deleted the post that was originally here because I was going in the wrong direction completely based off erroneous information I found on the web. Re: BD/AVCHD Compliant h264 Output / Presets

I'm not familiar with that filter, so I'll let someone else comment on it. I can't believe I'm the only person who has a need to take those crappy youtube video's and make them a little bigger while using a 16:9 or 4:3 pad to throw on a bluray. I can't be, can I? :) On a side note, I found another ...

Re: BD/AVCHD Compliant h264 Output / Presets

--preset veryslow gave an error but I noticed without it HB defaults to Medium, and then I figured out how to set the quality so it worked out. --cfr did not work without the -r command before it. If I just use --cfr it outputs a 25fps file no matter what I set --cfr to. Only way I got it to work wa...

Re: BD/AVCHD Compliant h264 Output / Presets

The HB CLI is a very additive process, you can start with the most barebones command (just -i and -o) and work from there adding options to satisfy yoru whims. What options are you claiming aren't documented in the help? Yeah, that's how I got along as far as I did, just by starting with the -i -o ...

Re: BD/AVCHD Compliant h264 Output / Presets

No doubt that the CLI interface must be quite powerful for the advanced user. The problem is as with all CLI programs, you have to be 100% accurate and know what you need before you even start and they assume you know a lot that is not listed in any help section anywhere. That's just not practical f...

Re: BD/AVCHD Compliant h264 Output / Presets

Why does everything have to be so hard. :(

This CLI stuff is beyond frustrating. I know this can be done via a GUI because I have a program that will do it, but as usual, I can't get as good of an output out of it as I can with HB.

Re: BD/AVCHD Compliant h264 Output / Presets

VMW6 is nice in that it will keep the original (smaller) picture size but output it in a 16:9 format. If HB could do this I would never touch VMW6 again except to do timeline editing. The HB CLI has a padding filter. Can someone point me to where I can find that info? I have searched high and low o...

Re: BD/AVCHD Compliant h264 Output / Presets

Shane, will your program create an elementary video stream with .264 or .avc extension'? If so, can I try one of yours, interlaced and UFF, bluray compliant. Sure no problem. The original file is from my old Panasonic camera and is 1280 x 720p @ 30FPS. I used the PAL Blu-Ray Compliant preset in VMW...

Re: BD/AVCHD Compliant h264 Output / Presets

Coming at my issue from a different angle, here is an elementary video stream that does not re-encode in Architect, just takes a couple of minutes to mux with the audio stream. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/20519276/Untitled.avc I'm not attempting to open this file in Handbrake, just to get a...

Re: BD/AVCHD Compliant h264 Output / Presets

Now, the only thing left is to be able to smoothly convert 25FPS to 29.97. So far, it's been impossible. I even though about using a screen capture utility and playing the video full screen and then capturing at 29.97. Can't find a free one without a stupid watermark though. :) I was able to do thi...

Re: BD/AVCHD Compliant h264 Output / Presets

Can you post your HB log of this? This is a 60 second test I just did. It takes a while to do this so I normally set up a queue and run it at night once I verify all the settings work. Here is the log from HB. This is the screenshot from AW5. The logo on the clip preview window with the letters &qu...

Please post your logs for one that authors without recompression. You will become an instant hero I promise. I'm not sure if I understand your question, but I'll try to answer the best I can. The problem is, authoring software (I use Authoring Works 5) typically does a terrible job at re-compressio...

Re: BD/AVCHD Compliant h264 Output / Presets

Hi everyone.

I just wanted to pop back in and let everyone know that this worked like a charm. I authored a disc using AW5 and it saw all the files as Smart Render and didn't have re-render a thing. I burned a disc and it works perfectly in every player I tried it in.

Thanks,

Re: BD/AVCHD Compliant h264 Output / Presets

Higher RF numbers are lower quality. The quality settings aren't constant across speed presets. Thanks. I picked up on that about the higher RF numbers being lower quality. The lower the RF number the larger the output file was. By a lot. So now that I think about it I guess that confirms what I th...

Re: BD/AVCHD Compliant h264 Output / Presets

Thanks Rodeo. So far with a tiny bit of tweaking, 100% of everything I've thrown at HB using your CL has produced a BR Compliant file. Am I correct in assuming that a smaller output file size doesn't necessarily mean poorer quality? I was always under the impression that the bigger the file size mea...

Re: BD/AVCHD Compliant h264 Output / Presets

Ok, here's all the info. The original is a 720i rip from a bluray. This is what AW5 shows with the converted file from HB. . . . . Thanks. In regard to this post, I fixed the problem. I just discovered that there are a few settings you can alter within AW5 and this is one of them. So far, everythin...

Re: BD/AVCHD Compliant h264 Output / Presets

Ummm, just lower the quality setting on the video tab... you can make the output whatever size you desire. I'll give that a try. I was getting a significantly smaller file with everything set the same way, only without the BR Compliant settings. But I'm going crosseyed tweaking things trying to get...

Re: BD/AVCHD Compliant h264 Output / Presets

Well, there's one problem that nothing can solve. The compressed file that HB is making is bigger than the original, but a lot. It took a an original 7GB rip and turned it in to a 10GB file. Another question in regard to what I'm trying to do here regarding converting to B&W/Grayscale. Is HB's G...
