Re: The iTunes Extras format
There's been some talk of this over in this thread. As far as I know, while the menus are viewable in any good web browser, the functions to actually play the movies are iTunes-specific (they use the window.itunes object, which normal browsers don't have), so they won't play outside of iTunes.

Re: Deinterlacing Results in Dropped Frames
Thanks for that, Lostless. I had a feeling that's what was happening, but I couldn't be sure. I've been checking out JES Deinterlacer. Apparently it accepts a bunch of file formats, not just DV, so I tried it out on a raw VOB file. Good results. In each frame there were traces of frame from the othe...

Deinterlacing Results in Dropped Frames
I'm trying to encode an episode of "Coupling". For the most part it's fine, except for the opening credits, where there is a lot of quickly sliding text. When I have deinterlacing filters turned off, both in HandBrake and Apple's DVD Player, I get something like this: http://img17.imagesha...

Re: Using Multiple Encodings for Multiple Devices
Gah! With some additional searching, I came across this site , which explains how to do it using the videos' cnID and HD tags. I didn't use the tool he suggested – I used Subler instead – but it worked the same way. I guess I hadn't come across it because I was using the wrong keywords. But it's goo...

Re: Using Multiple Encodings for Multiple Devices
Thanks for the clarification. Out of interest, in the time it took for the original post to be accepted by the moderators, I did some hunting around and found a plausible way to end up with one file (at least as shown in the iTunes library) that comes across as high profile on the computer but will ...

A CQ setting of 99.51% encodes as if it were 25%
I've noticed that for every single case I've tried, if I perform an encode with a constant quality over 99.04 (i.e. with an RF less than 1), the quality goes down the closer it gets to 100 (at 100 it picks up again). Why I'm trying to encode at 99% quality doesn't matter, but this is still a bug. Es...

Using Multiple Encodings for Multiple Devices
Today I came across the "play videos using standard definition version" checkbox in iTunes' preferences; it's to do with the fact that when you buy an HD movie you also get an SD movie to play on your iPod. Having not bought any HD movies (and not really planning to), I didn't realise this...

Re: Possible to change an MPEG's frame rate without re-encoding?
I only bought Final Cut Express, so I don't think I was lucky enough to get the Cinema Tools app. I've witnessed all possible ways of converting from NTSC to PAL. Take something like The Simpsons: on Sky One they interpolate frames; on Channel 4 they alter the speed and correct the audio to its orig...

Possible to change an MPEG's frame rate without re-encoding?
Living in the UK, I have a bunch of PAL DVDs of shows originally in NTSC format. And they've made the conversion by ramping the speed up by 4%, rather than trying to interpolate frames. Being anally retentive, part of me wants to have these videos slowed down to their original speed. Partly because ...

Re: iTunes Extra....
I've bought one of the movies because I was interested in how it was put together (it was Office Space). Here are my findings: Like applications, iTunes extras are indeed just folders but that have been given an .ite file extension – so you can see their contents by right-clicking on them and choosi...
