If anyone sees this try and explain exactly why it takes unbelievably long just to shrink a 30gb bluray rip. Also I was trying to register for this website but I could only find British English and no other language. Not to be racist against those in the European regions but I am from the United St...

Re: Could you please implement original video passthrough for matroska output.
This is because sometimes I want to re-encode the audio stream and keep the video stream as it is since I don't want the video quality to be degraded any further. Here's the agonisingly torturous solution to your problem, if you dare go to this much back-breaking trouble : 1. Load source into HB 2....

Re: Expectations/guidance on encoding for AppleTV 4K
I've noticed that an outside developer has built a 10-bit version of HB , but wasn't sure how useful that might be. Not useful in the least, because that rubbish is only a custom build with HIGH_BIT_DEPTH set for the relevant contribs. So, it still uses the libav codebase, piping 8-bit to a 10-bit ...

Re: Updated 10bit dlls for x264 and 10bit,12bit for x265
I was wondering if anyone was planning to update the extra libraries for 10 and 12 bit encoding in the stickied post since we are on x265 v2.5 now? Or, if someone knows how to build them, I would be happy to myself. You can acquire the latest x265 high bitdepth libs by following these instructions:...

Understood on the complexity involved in re-introducing it. https://patches.libav.org/patch/63668/ It's also good to know that it would simply be basic deinterlacing anyway. The QSV DeinterlacingMode enumerator itemizes VPP deinterlacing modes: MFX_DEINTERLACING_BOB BOB deinterlacing mode. MFX_DEIN...

Re: Help with Optimal H.265 1080p settings
But when going constant quality (trying 30 and 32) if I leave the Encoder Tune at None it is blocky and horrible looking, so I need to set Encoder Tune to Grain to retain noisy detail. Why is that? Read through this. It's about someone attempting to encode extremely low-bitrate (0.03bpp) 1080P HEVC...

Re: Batch Scan adding nfo files to valid files list
Why are you putting nfo files in your TV recording folders? a) Maybe because he's talking about TV recordings renamed to scraper-compatible filenames and then moved into his Server's "keep" folder? b) Maybe because XBMC/Kodi/Plex/etc automatically adds them to any source folder (when conf...

Nice thing is that on this movie almost all scenes it's pixelated, stop supporting x.265 until u fix this. Did you even BOTHER to read the github issue?! Or even the OP's report? It has NOTHING to do with the target encoder. just stop the libav suport... it's too bugged. Fixed that for you.

Re: Does Handbrake eliminate filler Bytes (NALUs)?
If what you're referring to is the redundant, out-of-sequence frames that are sent as part of an over-the-air broadcast, those can be problematic, and you may need to repair the data stream before it gets to handbrake. No, he's referring to the all-too-common NAL Unit Type 12/0x0C (Filler Data, Non...

Any idea what range of RF settings I should try in both x264 and x265 to try'n end up with that bitrate? I know it is dependent on the source, but... average action movie, say? Re: UHD HDR: no compatibility of HandBrake encode, muxing issue?
Remuxing the files that came directly out of HandBrake with mkvmerge does not solve it. I thought HDR gamut data was stored statically within the bitstream via SEI? I know that there are dynamic (external) metadata specs, such as Dolby, but you're not using that. Therefore, any wrapper/container fi...

Re: UHD HDR: no compatibility of HandBrake encode, muxing issue?
A mystery no-one can figure out, eh?
Not wanting to open a horrible can of worms, I have to point out that there IS a big difference between the two:
Hybrid is a ffmpeg-based project.
Handbrake is a libav-based project.
I'd be starting your investigation there.

Most movies come out to between 2-4 GB in size, but occasionally, one will result in a 6GB+ size file. Constant factors produce an encode at the given quality setting using whatever bitrate is required, whether it be large or small. As has already been pointed out, the visual nature of content will...
