Re: Video passthrough support

I think the main reason for video passthrough not being implemented is that it would begin to turn HandBrake, as you even suggested, into a remuxer, which is beyond its scope. For that sort of thing, there's Subler. While I can see why they want to shy away from turning handbrake into an all-purpos...

Yes, thank you so much for your original idea. We would never have been able to conceive of a 720p preset that plays on Macs, iPhone 4s, iPads, iPod Touch 4s, and the new AppleTVs without your vital input. *slams head into desk*

Is that log from an encode using the exact same settings? The prior screenshot didn't have any filters run on it?

What does the same frame in the source video look like?

Re: Handbrake Surround Question

It will not preserve the sub-channel if you do DD5.1 -> DPL2 because it can lead to interference. However, the reason it leads to interference is that LFE data is also usually present in other channels, so it's not like you lose all use of the subwoofer. If you do DPL2->DPL2 it will skip mixing down...

Considering the amount of effort required to get you to follow the forum rules and provide a log, I suppose I shouldn't be surprised that you never mentioned you were using the deblocking filter. Which is single-threaded. And only for really low quality input. Why are you even using it?

Re: Make AppleTV encodes play on iPhone/iPad

Wouldn't the issue be with the level signalled in the video stream, not the container? Pretty sure the OP needs to hex edit the x264 header to signal 3.1 instead of 5.1, the old default.

Re: Alert Non-Forum users of the Nightlies, FAQs, etc.

Something to keep in mind regarding making the nightlies more visible... Nightlies get downloads in the hundreds or thousands. We put them up on the front page, we could be talking millions. That creates a huge support load, and somewhat defeats the purpose of having nightlies. They let us rapidly r...

As soon as I tried the "Iphone & Ipod Touch" profile, and even the "iPhone Legacy" profile, the video played fine - no stutters, no choppiness and completely "decombed". Or, far more likely, it's just shrunk down to so few pixels you can't see the combing or the ma...

Re: DTS in an M4V container, ever?

DTS getting Apple to go to the trouble of including the spec in the format and then not bothering to release their own methodology to get it to work? Forgive me if I'm being a bit dumb, but if Apple have set out a standard for using DTS and DTS-MA in mp4/m4v, shouldn't that imply that the AppleTV a...

I'd like to add something like this at some point, with file output, in order to allow re-use of combing statistics for a source on future encodes, to save processing time. Of course I've used debugging lines like this during development (see https://trac.handbrake.fr/browser/trunk/libhb/decomb.c#L5...

Re: display whether source is INTERLACED or not

There's not any reliable way to tell you in advance. That's why there's decomb. Every frame has to be examined. Other tools cheat and make these decisions off of tangentially related but unreliable criteria like framerate and picture type flags. In scan I'm just doing a very basic visual examination...

No, the trac roadmap doesn't contain any blockers for 0.9.5. The reason there aren't any current tickets: 1) The way it usually works is that a month or two before a release, we do a feature-freeze and start consolidating extant bug reports into tickets, which then get checked off as we ramp up. Thi...

Re: Odd Colorspace problem with DNxHD

Very much doubt that's it, Rodeo. My guess is it's libswscale. Color conversion happens in devav*.c. We're telling it to get a sws_context for YUV422P -> YUV420P. But if you look at sws_getContext() from libswscale, you'll see that it finds out the source's value range like so: 00746 srcRange = hand...
