Re: Issues compiling on PS3 with Ubuntu 9.04
It is highly unlikely the version you can find in your repository matches the one we build. mp4v2 forked recently. The version we use is hosted on google code. The original version is essentially unmaintained, thus the fork.

Re: [svn2838] MKV Files with Theora video won't play in Mplayer
mkvmerge and HandBrake do not share any common upstream libraries. So the only common factors are theora and the players. My guess would be theora changed something in the video stream that conforms to spec, but was unexpected by those players. And since the most recent svn version of mplayer alread...

Re: [svn2838] MKV Files with Theora video won't play in Mplayer
From your description, this must be an mplayer problem. You can create a file completely independently of HandBrake that demonstrates the problem. That makes it very unlikely that handbrake is the source of the problem. Also, I tried it with the latest svn version of mplayer and it works fine.

Re: Build Instructions on Linux
If you're going to build it yourself, you're better off using svn or one of our recent snapshot releases. HandBrake documentation includes a compiling guide with specific build instructions for Fedora and Ubuntu. Though you will probably still have difficulties building it for either CentOS or Red H...

Re: Update Theora?
We did recently update to theora svn16547 because 1.0 would not compile on Snow Leopard. So we have most of the improvements. Looking at the commit history of libtheory, we are missing one bug fix for an uncommon corner case and one commit that removes some redundant code. By the way, we've all seen...

Re: Down at Fraggle Rock
Okay, I just downloaded and installed the update and tried the process again. I got the same result. Did you go to advanced preferences and enable dvdnav, then exit handbrake and restart as Tedj described? And sometimes you have to eject the disc and reinsert it. The OS like to cache the bad data t...

Re: Down at Fraggle Rock
"Badly pressed" is code for intentionally obfuscated during the authoring process. Many studios use techniques designed to make it difficult to backup the media. So it's not surprising at all that they all behave the same.

Re: Build Instructions on Linux
There are fedora 11 rpms for the recent snapshot. If you are trying to run on CentOS, it probably isn't going to work. CentOS uses packages that are just too old.

Re: Croatian audio language on DVD
To answer your first question, the sorting order of the languages comes from the table of languages that I blindly copied. That table happens to be ordered by iso639-2b language code, and the code for Croatian happens to be "scr". Go figure. As for your other problem, that's a bug there. I...

Re: SVN 2829 Unable to change tasks or remember settin - MacGUI?
Balrog on #handbrake reported having the second issue. He was able to work around it by deleting and re-creating the custom preset he was using. For him, the issue only occurred when using an old custom preset.

Re: H.264 for Home Theater?
In the 0.9.3 release, the gui's do not display the CRF setting for quality. They show a % factor instead. We realized what a bad idea that was and have changed it to show the real CRF value in the latest code. Have a look at the snapshot release announced in the General forum. As far as a preset &qu...

Re: How-to add support for Presentation Graphic Stream
Yes handbrake does have a burn option. That would be an alternate path you could work on instead of trying to translate to a compatible soft sub format. The code for handling vobsub burning is split between libhb/decvobsub.c and libhb/render.c. decvobsub decodes the subtitles and renders them to bit...

I already know exactly why this happens. 0.9.3 no longer works with more recent versions of libgtk. Nothing I can do about it. Upgrade to the recent snapshot.

These kind of problems are difficult to debug without a sample. If you could supply a short clip of your source material that demonstrates the problem, it might help us figure it out.

Re: [Patch] --disable-network
Well, now I'm not sure what you're asking for. We always build our packages with yasm.. If you have yasm installed, x264 will use it. There are not any special build flags necessary for that. The most speed critical libraries use hand tuned assembly for their most speed sensitive components, so spec...

Re: [Patch] --disable-network
The update checker can be disabled in handbrake's preferences. There is no need to modify the build to disable it. The ubuntu version does not download or install a new update, it only informs you that a new version is available from the handbrake team. Packagers can't be relied upon to update their...

Re: Segmentation Fault on Ubuntu 9.04 after recent updates
So ubuntu 9.04 users, in summary, don't use the handbrake site HandBrake-0.9.3-Ubuntu_GUI_i386.deb. Rather, add "deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/handbrake-ubuntu/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main" to your /etc/apt/sources.list and then "aptitude update && aptitude install handbrake-gtk&quo...

Please, if you have this problem. Back up the directory (~/.config/ghb) and post it somewhere so I can diagnose what causes this.
