Side note, Subler allows you to adjust audio gain without editing the audio.

Re: Apple TV 4 doesn't play my rips with 5.1
The entire point of the thread is whether the Apple TV automatically chooses the 5.1 version of a track pair. Which Apple TVs 1-3 did, 4 doesn't, but will with forthcoming changes to our code.

Ah, that clears things up. Mixing the voiceover with the other audios to create one track (before HandBraking) is the safest option for ensuring successful playback everywhere.

(Initially I thought you meant Dolby Surround in HandBrake, which is not 5.1.)
Good to know that setting still exists in the new Apple TV software.

Re: Loss of voice over audio.
My first guess was that your original file still has two audio tracks, the voice track and whatever your main/background track is. HandBrake will not merge these. But you say that you merged them using FCP X, and I'm certainly not disagreeing!

Re: Output English audio track as Unknown Language and External Subtitles not shown
ISO-8859-1 or UTF-8 are the most common for English. TextWrangler is a free text editor that can determine character encoding for you (displayed on the status bar at the bottom of a document).

Re: Fastest Way to rip my 150 Blu-Ray collection? November 2015
Be nice to the new guy, fellas. ;) I know you both have decent USB Blu-ray drive recommendations (probably LG). What is the fastest/easiest method? Use HandBrake's Apple TV 3 preset to make compatible mp4 video files. You can use Subler to add metadata and artwork. The 1.7 GHz part is what's going t...

Re: Moved to Git
No difference for the layman. This is almost entirely about how the developers manage the source code. You will still be able to get HandBrake and HandBrake support at https://handbrake.fr
For people using nightly builds, the naming has changed slightly.

Re: Optimizing streaming
@nhyone It's not a competition. And your initial question, while relevant, ignored the fact that we require an activity log for support. The display dimensions are an artifact of rounding given crop/scale/anamorphic settings. HandBrake could probably do better to assume 1:1 par in this case instead ...

Re: Apple TV 4 doesn't play my rips with 5.1
It's a shame that Handbrske doesn't do this already when encoding using the Apple TV preset, I'm sure the 5.1 thing might trip up a few other users It's being discussed. Changes take time, HandBrake being maintained by a volunteer team. Apple TV 4 seems to pick up the first audio track when there a...

Re: Problem with the new H.265 codec?
Encoding for regular playback (watching a live action or animation video on your display) doesn't necessitate RF values below 15. Even at 15, I would get garbled/choppy video playback with the H.265 codec..... Does game footage come under animation video ...or? That may true, but I want to preserve...

Hmm, that's a pretty sane encode. Looks like based on the Normal preset? I thought maybe you were using settings that omitted vbv (technical stuff), but that looks okay to me.

Re: How can i create soundhandler Audio With Handbrake
Audio: AAC 44100Hz stereo 125kbps [A: SoundHandler [unk] (aac lc, 44100 Hz, stereo, 125 kb/s)] ^ label/title (meaningless) ^ stereo (left and right channels) You can "pass through" the audio without encoding it again, using the AAC Passthru setting. This may still change the label, but wi...

Agreed, best to find that HDD. There are some file size losses with re-encoding, also. Takes more bits to achieve the same perceived quality with each generation of loss.

Re: Problem with the new H.265 codec?
x264's RF 0 is lossless and not very well supported by many H.264 decoders. VLC *should* play it fine. Lower RF means higher quality, which means more bits needed, which increases file size. Encoding for regular playback (watching a live action or animation video on your display) doesn't necessitate...

Re: Optimizing streaming
Post a full encode log when you get the chance. I suspect it's less about bandwidth and more about your encode's settings and device compatibility.
Also, please list the devices you're using for playback.

Don't have to do a full encode. Stop it early. Or grab one of the previous encode logs from disk: https://trac.handbrake.fr/wiki/ActivityLogByPlatform
