No Audio

Dear JohnAStebbins, I encoded a .mkv file from a DVD I own and I included three audio tracks from the dvd in the FLAC format, but none of the audio tracks produced any sound under VLC, SMPlayer or Totem under Ubuntu 12.04 or even VLC under Windows 7. I then encoded MakeMKV's rip (which had audio) of...

Re: HandBrake 0.9.8 Released

Yay? **Ducks tomatoes and other rotten fruit thrown by the HandBrake team.** Ever since I understood that the nightlies are pretty stable and have new features added all the time, I've stopped relying on the stable version for anything. Especially because if ever a bug report gets posted, we have to...

Decomb Bob

Dear Devs,

Does the Decomb Bob routine use the new Decomb Default or the old Decomb Fast technique in detecting combing? If it uses the Decomb Fast routine, is there a way to get Decomb Bob to use the new Decomb Default routine for combing detection? I was just curious.

Re: HandBrake 0.9.7 Discussion Thead

I can't tell if this release includes the Bob filter as well, or if it's strictly a 0.9.6 fix release. I could wait until it shows up in the Ubuntu PPA to find out... ...or I could ask it here!

Either way, mad props to you guys for all your hard work! It's much appreciated!

Re: Decomb Bob and Detelecine

That's true, but I really like the decomb output and I just want the simplicity of leaving one preset on for everything. If decomb bob is known to play nice with weird instances of telecined material, then I'll use decomb bob for everything and just simplify my life. But that's what I'm hoping someo...

Decomb Bob and Detelecine

Dear devs, If in the past I had issues with detelecine and anime, I simply used decomb. I have tried the new decomb bob and it produces the most beautiful results. So I was wondering, is there anything wrong with using decomb bob for everything? Will I have any stuttering issues if I simply use deco...

Re: Here Comes Bob!

I turned Decomb Bob on in the filter settings, but the log just seems to say "Decomb" and not Decomb Bob. I can't tell from the log if Decomb Bob was used. Handbrake Version: 4696svn (2012052101) [00:57:53] hb_scan: path=/media/MOOSHOO/VIDEO_TS, title_index=1 [00:57:53] thread 7f0ca0ffa700...

Re: VOBSUB Aspect Ratio

The subtitles look fine when played on my 4:3 TV, i.e. the font looks properly sized, when played in a DVD player, but the fonts are fat and short when burned in or played in VLC/SMPlayer2. I can provide a sample/logs when I get my computer back in two weeks.

VOBSUB Aspect Ratio

Currently, if you select burned-in subtitles, the subtitles stretch themselves to be as wide as the video image. If the TV show being ripped is 4:3, then the subtitles look to be in the right aspect ratio. However, if the TV show being ripped is 16:9, then the subtitles look fat and short because th...

If you load Ubuntu on that thing, you can rip everything with only open-source software and you won't need to pre-rip your DVDs if you set it up right.

OK. I won't rip anything to an "archival" kind of rip until the 0.9.7 release (RF 16, and all that jazz), but use HandBrake instead to watch movies and enjoy them until them.

Re: Looking for Win7 Ripper Recommendations

I used to use DVDFab on Windows for ripping my stuff and it worked fine. However, I found out that using HandBrake and Ubuntu made for the best combo since everything was a) free and b) stable like an anvil. Ubuntu and HandBrake have never given me any grief about region settings and all that artifi...

Re: HandBrake Stable for Precise Pangolin

OK. Thanks for the update, Rodeo. I look forward to the nightly builds. Any reason why 0.9.7 is going to be a bugfix release? I think it's a good idea that you're considering a build like that, but is there a feature planned for 0.9.8 that will necessitate a bugfix release? I really appreciate all t...

HandBrake Stable for Precise Pangolin

Dear JohnAStebbins, I am not sure what is involved in the creation of a Precise Pangolin version of HandBrake Stable for the PPA ( https://launchpad.net/~stebbins/+archive/handbrake-releases ), if it generates a version for Precise automatically or if you have to do something to it, but please would...

Re: Detelecine/Decomb

If I understand detelecine and decomb correctly, if enabled together, the detelecine filter goes first and when it's done, if there is any decombing work to be done, then the decomb filter acts on the remainder. A safe rule to follow for when to enable detelecine and decomb is this. If the fps of th...
