Re: AppleTV Alternatives.... if it sucks
Looks like none of them support h.264. H.264 is a MPEG4 codec is it not? It is based on MPEG4. Spec sheets usually list h.264/AVC separately. Here is another alternative, Pixel Magic Systems , it does not support h.264, or a Mac for that matter. I also found a better link for the KiSS 1600 . It loo...

Re: AppleTV Alternatives.... if it sucks
So, I think I will be waiting it out and seeing if the appleTV sucks as much as I suspect it will (no AC3 sound). As far as I understand it Quicktime mixes down AAC 5.1 to stereo when you output to your awesome 5.1 system, so I can only assume the appleTV will do the same, as it is based on Quickti...

Updated Apple TV Specs!?
This is what the Apple TV spec page says about supported video. H.264 and protected H.264 (from iTunes Store): Up to 5 Mbps, Progressive Main Profile (CAVLC) with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps (maximum resolution: 1280 by 720 pixels at 24 fps, 960 by 540 pixels at 30 fps) iTunes Store purchased video:...

Music Video DVDs are a pain
Be careful when encoding music video DVDs! Music video DVDs are a mix of different source material, making cropping, aspect ratio correction, and deinterlacing difficult to determine for individual chapters. Many of my DVDs would have 4:3 and 16:9 content within the same title. Some had a mix of int...

Your question is personal. Depends on your intended use (mobile, 50 inch LCD), how sensitive you are to compression artifacts, and the source quality. Look in the 'Post your Best Settings' topic for ideas on what others are using. I think I read a post where a handbrake encoded file was wrapped in a...

no audio drop
I have converted over 100 DVDs and have never had audio drop out. All DVDs were ripped with MTR. Recently, I have converted Borat, Maria Antoinette, and Casino Royale for my iPod at 1500 kbs, 2 pass, h.264, 128 kbs, and they all work perfectly. I also have used higher bitrates on some movies, 3000 k...

...I used the example above to make this point obvious -- to me it would seem daft to use 720x576 with CRF -q 0.5 -- I think most people would think/agree it is better to use a lower resolution and a higher CRF -q value... Sorry, I don't agree. To my eyes, resolution is very important. I would neve...

ok, it's not QuickTime 7.1.5 that's causing my crashes. Before clean-installing OS X and all my apps (Adobe's product re-installs suck!), I carefully rethought the past few days to see if anything else on my system had changed. Nothing OS wise besides the QT 7.1.5 install. But, I did try something ...

You need to make a VIDEO_TS folder with only one title. Use DVDoneX (Movie Only) like dynaflash said or MTR beta (Main Feature Extraction) if you already have that. MTR beta will remove zero cells automactically if they are there and is faster then ripping the entire disk and then using DVDoneX. Som...

Easy to use Constant Quality
Is there a way to make the constant quality mode and quality settings easier to use? I have noticed a large bitrate range amongst my encodes at a set quality thus making it difficult (time consuming) to figure out what percentage to choose. For example, setting the quality to 70% will give bitrates ...
