[FIXED]Burned In Subtitle Timing Off

Dear Rodeo or JohnAStebbins, The option to burn in the subtitles on a DVD produces burned in subtitles that occur too late whenever a character speaks and stays for too short a period of time. If I choose not to burn in the subtitles, then the subtitles occur when the person speaking starts to speak...

So no one here has any idea then?
I was doing a bit of reading on the forums (mostly in that red bar above your first post) and I found that posting an encode log was really useful in getting solid ideas on your issues instead of navel gazing.

Naming Difference

Dear JohnAStebbins,

I was looking at Changeset 5001 and I noticed this oddity.

Code: Select all

pkg/linux/debian/control.pangolin (1 diff)
Shouldn't that be

Code: Select all

pkg/linux/debian/control.precise (1 diff)
instead?

Re: x264 Presets, Tunes, Profiles on HandbrakeGUI

uy195036, I wasn't referring to this moronic thread at all. I was excited about jamiemlaw's snazzy website. Before this, I had to go to this thread https://forum.handbrake.fr/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=19426 to make those presets, but now I see that jamiemlaw's awesome website does that for me and it's...

Should that be dilate or dialate? I don't know any better. Just thought I'd ask.

Do you think it makes sense for the developers to waste their time trying to fix things pirates put out using any and all kinds of weird software packages?

Re: x264 Presets, Tunes, Profiles on HandbrakeGUI

I'm bewildered and confused by ios and uy195036. If you want the presets, tunes and so on, why don't you just make your own preset in HandBrake that follows the official presets?

Why does this thread even exist???

Re: Vastly Improved Film Encodes with "Film" Tune

qpmin=0 is the default for x264 and is its recommended setting, but in HandBrake I think it's set to something else to maintain compatibility with Apple's degenerate playback devices. I read on the x264 mewiki page that qpmin=0 was recommended and since I don't use any Apple products, I set it back ...

Re: FLAC to MP3

So the MP3 files aren't being fed a normalized version of the AC3 file different from how FLAC files are created? I don't know where I picked up this idea, but that's why I stuck to FLAC files because I thought that MP3s couldn't handle the AC3 encode without some modification first in HandBrake.

FLAC to MP3

Dear Rodeo or JohnAStebbins, I remember you mentioning some time ago that the stereo downmix for FLAC and MP3 formats were different, i.e. the FLAC format may have louder sounds than the MP3 file. Is one louder than another? Are there any differences (other than format and detail retention) in betwe...

Vastly Improved Film Encodes with "Film" Tune

Dear forumwallas, I tried something in HandBrake that gave me (in my opinion) a far superior encode at a higher RF value. I used to encode that RF 16 because that was the setting at which the blocky regions of dark portions of the DVDs would be reduced. However, I tried at RF 18, the "film"...

Re: Handbrake 0.9.8 must be working very well

Of course I'm kidding about going back to AutoGK. Although I have fond memories of using AutoGK way back when. That was over five years ago though. I was introduced to HandBrake I can't remember how, and I haven't looked back since. I don't know what your history with encoding is, but audio/video sy...

Re: Handbrake 0.9.8 must be working very well

Please. You are missing the big picture. The reason the forums are so quiet is because we've all quit using HandBrake and moved back to AutoGordianKnot (AutoGK). Finally a program that gives me a target file size, xvid encoding and an AVI container to boot. Features that HandBrake is so sorely lacki...

It's safe to leave decomb on all the time and never have detelecine on. It may not be the best solution to every problem, but it's completely safe.

Oh man. If only that were the case. NTSC and Detelecine are almost unusable when it comes to older anime DVDs when there's a panning scene. Stuttering video. Enough said.

Re: HEVC support? (new standard from MPEG; 40-50% > than H26

With hard drive space being as cheap as it is, and that nearly every device now decodes x264, why would you want to switch to another codec? x264 is like MP3 technology now. It's good enough for a lot of people and it's ubiquitous. Consider AAC vs MP3. Sure, AAC is SO much more awesome and gives its...

Re: SVN 4887 - hb_audio_resample errors

I have been away from my computer for a while now, so when I loaded the latest nightly, I got the errors that I got. I went back to the 0.9.8 release and I was able to encode my DVDs again. I only have DVDs and I only encode from AC3 audio. I never select the DTS track. I had the libav issue for all...
