Re: No Audio for half the movie

Actually, this has just happened to me using Handbrake at width 640. Never happened before. Encode slowed way down on the second pass, result was audio cutting off after about a third of the film (Alien [Extended]). Using MF with AVC/AAC/XVID/Main profile Average Bitrate:1000 kbps 2 pass encoding Ba...

Forgive my ignorance: I haven't yet checked the tool you speak of.

Could it be confirmed that there is no quality loss in alll these stops until we get to the Handbrake stage?

I've discovered that it is possible to extract closed captions as SRT subs. And that there exist methods of converting SRT (and other types of sub) into VobSubs (idx + sub, i.e. pictures rather than text). So if there was an option to include, apart from the subpictures already on the DVD, one's own...

I've got the same problem. On a Region 1 drive, using a Region 1 DVD (Sin City Recut), it only picks up a few few of the titles. Ripping an image and then trying to run both MF and HB on the image and the DVD yields no improvement.

Goddamnit :)! The eternal reply that can always be dished out in an open source project! You're absolutely correct of course, there are bigger fish to fry. I've moved my attention to the other subtitle thread which may offer a better method of getting CCs to work: have a read and see what you think.

I have had this problem too. When I use DVD Decrypter (Windows), it reports the audio/video offset of a DVD in the filename. So for example, -66ms. So there are, I'm thinking, some DVDs that do have offsets which don't prevent perfect sync when playing the DVD, but do cause problems for us rippers. ...

How about when setting up rip option, having an additional option in the drop down menu for subtitles? Like "English, Spanish, German, [External file...]" where the last option would allow you to choose your own subtitle file. This could then be "burned in" at time of compression...

The funny thing is, I actually live in Region 2 (England). Yet I have deliberately bought many Region 1 DVDs with Closed Captions because their Region 2 counterparts have no subtitles (Yes Minister amongst them). This is so that my wife (who isn't a native English speaker) finds it easier. Surely th...

Examples abound... especially in Region 1. I can think of a couple right away:

Yes Minister
South Park (the later series)

Closed captions / subtitles

Subtitle support is already there. However, there is still no way to get closed captions burned onto the video file. This would be really useful since many Region 1 DVDs have closed captions instead of standard subtitles. Windows already has various tools for subtitle extraction (http://www.geocitie...
