HD preset for AppleTV PS3 Xbox360
I don't know anyone with all 3 devices. But I'll give you an untested, unproven educated guess ;) I will call this preset cvk_b's "Vanilla HD Version 1.0"; Basically 540p24 max width 960 pixels or less max height 540 pixels or less fps 23.976 or 25 2 pass turbo avg bitrate 3000, if it's o...

Re: [PATCH] Framerate Improvements
Okay, this is from v2 "ifr" on that same source. Without too deep of examination, playback appears to have returned to normal. [08:18:00] thread f0617000 joined ("Renderer") [08:18:00] render: 206111 frames output, 36 dropped and 0 duped for CFR/PFR [08:18:00] render: lost time:...

Well, I'm just testing the patch and this one is horribly jerky, unwatchable. (and yes I know vfr is what SHOULD be done).saintdev wrote:yeah, it only duped 33912 frames, not 33921cvk_b wrote:Whoa, that seems a bit much. Full logCode: Select all

Re: Post Your "Best Settings" here and Why.
All - I've read through this an countless other threads but haven't found an answer to this one (specifically): I want to get from DVD to .mkv with MAXIMUM QUALITY (no concern for file size). Should be simple but If i choose the "film" preset from the "high profile" section, and...

Re: XBMC on Apple TV Take 2 [UPDATED]
The 2nd iteration on the patch is at http://handbrake.fr/pastebin/pastebin.php?show=438 I added the other rate limit option, IFR (for Instantaneous Frame Rate limit). It makes sure that no frame is shorter than what's allowed by the specified frame rate. E.g., if you specify 25fps then all frames w...

VFR and XBMC + AppleTV
I've had an ATV since November and have been continuously fighting choppy playback when using XBMC/boxee and Handbrake created files. I have tried every combination of encode settings I could think of, or find online (never tried another encoder since I run a Mac... not much else around) and would ...

Re: Quicktime 7.6 crashes when opening Handbrake m4vs
Happy to give it a test, but I'll admit I'm at a loss on what you mean by "constant framerate". Making an explicit framerate selection, such as 23.976. "Same as source" FPS method employed when the user doesn't specify a framerate is inherently variable, as it passes through the...

Re: Newbie ripping question
The world would be a happier place if everyone would just use the Universal Preset.I just figured as I wasn't going to be viewing output files on an Apple device, I would be better ignoring the Apple presets.

Re: Apple TV Constant Quality
59% is a good middle of the line number right now. I use 62% for clean sources that I really want to shine, like dreamworks or pixar stuff. I use 58% for old, crappy, grainy sources that tend to bloat the bitrate needlessly. That's really all you need to know.

Re: Quicktime 7.6 crashes when opening Handbrake m4vs
Using a constant framerate seems to avoid the aac+ac3+QT-7.6(mac) issue.
I need someone to confirm this, please.

Find a player for your computer that allows you to listen/select the AC3 track [ vlc/perian ]. Is there still a problem? Can you confirm the problem is the file and not the AppleTV/Hardware setup? That's such a popular disc… I'm sure plenty of users (I know I have) successfully encoded it. Pre-Rip ...

I haven't REed much after the above post, life's been a little hectic lately, but I thought I'd mention my solution to the whole point of creating this post originally haha. refulgentis, you have tested subme8. With bframes off subme 7=6 & 9=8 jon, I'd really take a look at ref=4:bframes=3:b-adapt=2:weightb:me=umh:trellis=1:subme=7:8x8dct for High Profile film. Just because we can turn on all those fancy options doesn't mean we should. That line, to me, represents ...
