Re: Anamorphic - Custom

I can't answer the question on anamorphic settings - they're black magic to me. :) Seems to me, though, based on s55's comment, it didn't work in 0.10.x, but it let you play with the settings... Which is only marginally different than not being able to play with the broken settings. Except that peop...

Re: Pick a specific subtitle and audio

You can do that with the command line quite easily.

But, don't be surprised if subtitle track 2 is NOT always the right track for audio track 2.

Re: Anamorphic - Custom

Version 1.x of handbrake makes you select a video source because many of the settings cannot be "active" without something loaded. Old versions would let you make changes without something loaded, but the settings that required a source were "undefined". So, the answer to your &q...

Re: Just a General Question About Handbrake and Blu-Ray Encoding

Lots of USB DVD drives that don't have riplock. Without a Bluray ripping tool, a BD drive won't be useful to you (libdvdcss does NOTHING for BD). That said, I've used LG USB2 BD readers with MakeMKV, and the speed limitation was in how fast MakeMKV could write to the destination, not how fast it cou...

"How much you lose" is a very subjective metric, especially when dealing with video that has many different types of scenes in it. Some settings favor maintaining detail, some favor properly rendering fast motion, etc. Some settings favor dark backgrounds, others favor backgrounds with mor...

Re: Queue Progress Info Output To A File / Web Interface

Honesty the Handbrake Team just needs to add a option to output the status of the Handbrake application to a file. I think the phrase, "Patches welcome" is appropriate here. This request would be very useful to a handful of people, and of no interest to most. If it were of interest to a d...

Re: Queue Progress Info Output To A File / Web Interface

It can vary with the installation. Generally, Windows users will find it in "C:\Users\(your user name)\AppData\Roaming\HandBrake\logs". During the encode, the file is named "last_encode_log.txt" (or a variation on that; the machine I'm using right now is using "last_encode_l...

Re: Blotchy and pixelated picture

OK, so you're not going to say, "But it worked last week!" :)

Many people think that handbrake is a "ripping tool", because, with some 3rd-party add-ons, it can rip SOME disks. But it doesn't do all, and it won't do any commercial disk without those third-party add-ons.

Re: Possibility to chose a delay

And a few minutes cool-off means nothing if the cooling is busted, because it will go right back up to maximum temperature within a couple of seconds of starting the encode. Fix the cooling, grab one of the free utilities to display the CPU temperatures, and don't worry about it unless the temps are...

libdvdread: Encrypted DVD support unavailable. libdvdnav: Unable to open device file /dev/disk3. If you had this working before, your third-party decryption software is not working. Handbrake does NOT incorporate copy protection removal, and support for that is not done here. Ripping software like ...

Re: DVD encode failure

If it was working before and is not now, your third-party library to decrypt disks has stopped working. Handbrake itself does not know how to remove copy protection, which is why the standard recommendation is to use a ripping tool first, then let handbrake encode the results. I use MakeMKV; there a...

Without having a copy of your video on hand, we need the next best thing - the logs handbrake made saying what it saw and how you asked it to process the file.

Re: How To Monitor Handbrake Process From The Web?

Implementing something with limited interest probably isn't going to happen unless someone with a strong interest also happens to be a programmer capable of doing it.

You can output the status messages of the command line to a file by adding "2>SomeFileName.TXT" to the end.

Re: Is there a way to control processor usage?

On cooling issues, you might want to also look at getting the hot air out of the case. My AMD machine's CPU temps drops 5-8C if I turn on a second case fan. Generic machines typically don't do proper air flow design. On a lot of better-designed machines, the CPU fan is ducted straight to the outside...

Re: 3D HSHS/HOU ".sup" Subtitle Support

You would need to make patches upstream to libav to add support for MVC 3D before the subject of subtitles for 3D could come into scope. Being able to handle "3D subtitles" without handling "3D video" is rather useless.

Technically, you could redirect stderr to another process that parses the output, keeping track of what file is being processed.

On 24 May 2016, Sony announced that it sold Vegas (and most of its "Creative Software" line) to MAGIX, who would continue supporting and developing the software.
So, you're saying you have version 14 of "The software formerly known as Sony Vegas", from Magix Software GmbH?

MakeMKV simply copies the information out of the the collection of m2ts files that make up a BD title, and puts it into an MKV file. When you're using the BD library in handbrake on a previously-decrypted BD file system, it does much the same thing... if you chose the correct play list to encode. No...

Re: Trying to hardcode subtitles, what am I doing wrong?

And we really can't answer a lot of questions about handbrake on XP, because it hasn't been supported for a LONG time. It's quite likely that whatever issue you're running into was fixed 4 or 5 years ago. It could be as simple as your SRT character set isn't the same as you told handbrake to expect....

Add "2> logfile.txt" (or pick a different name) to the END of the command line you're using now, and capture the log of the encode. That will show us what you're doing now, which will help with tweaking. Include the command line itself when you post it here.

Are there any entries in the Windows Event Viewer for when this happens? If so, can you post them, too?
