The real solution would be to put a <$100 proper media player in the chain connected to your TV.

(SMART???) TV's are notorious for their outdated/clunky player firmware and lack of codec support.

Try them on a PC/MAC with VLC first. If OK there, check the settings on your BR player.

I think that you mean that USERS will require something other than VLC to deal with DRM as Handbrake has never purported to be a ripper.

1. Prerip the DVD to your hard disk
2. Analyse and extract/OCR subs with Subtitle Edit (PC, don't know what's available for MAC's)
