Re: Handbrake cant find source on OS

HandBrake is not formally supported on ChromeOS.

Also, I suspect ChromeOS has some pretty stringent permissions which will prevent the app from accessing much outside a small number of directories in all likelyhood.

Re: preset panel nightly

The preset panel has been retired.

Presets can currently be selected one of two ways currently.
1. View the in-line preset picker just above the tabbed pane.
2. Via the Presets Menu.

Re: VideoToolbox CQ 100 = Lossless quality?

Nope. There isn't an equivalent mode as far as I'm aware.

Note, if quality is that high a priority factor, don't use M1 VideoToolbox.

Post editing is time limited (prevents spam bots). I've turned it down to be a little less aggressive on lockout.

Short answer. Don't know yet. I'll need to do some digging to see where the issue actually lies.

Re: AMD Ryzen 5900X Results

It's not IO. It's either ffmpeg decode or possibly filters.

Edit: Not the Decomb/Interlace Detect it seems.
Edit: Corrections to numbers above following re-test. Also seeing quite a bit of run-to-run variance. I may need to do a multi-pass run for each to get averages :(

I'd wager it's limited on decode or filter but I'll need to do some testing to confirm.

Before running out for upgrades, can you post a log for an existing encode so we can see what settings your using. We may be able recommend some changes that avoids paying for an upgrade. Also, Multi-socket systems don't always work the best with HandBrake. Have a look at task manager. Is it actuall...

This thread has outlived it's usefulness. locking.

The formal stance on this is Target file size or derivative features such as file size estimation are not coming back to HandBrake due to accuracy issues.

Re: AVX512 enabling?

I think x265 disables it by default still in that version. I'm not sure if there is any way to enable it or not but you could try asm=avx512 as an option. If not then it's not likely to work.

Re: handbrake adding subtitles to blu ray

Ask the folks that made the disc. That particular title has a track that fits the bill as foreign audio. It's entirely possible it's a mis-detect due to it being a special feature or something else. Either way, PGS subtitles will always be burned into MP4 if a track is detected by foreign audio or y...

Re: handbrake adding subtitles to blu ray

Turn off the Foreign audio search feature on the subtitle tab.
If you want this permanently off, go onto the selection behaviour screen, uncheck and turn off that feature. Then save as your own preset. Make that preset your default.

Doesn't actually work Rodeo. At best they tame bit-rate but not actually limit it. Might be something we are doing wrong but ultimately, it's not going to have the desired effect. @Ehronw: https://handbrake.fr/docs/en/latest/technical/video-nvenc.html Performance section explains why there is CPU us...

Re: Limiting bitrate using NVenc

Since nvenc doesn't have a proper 2-pass mode, using average bitrate will lead to significantly less efficiency in file sizes. If you don't mind using a higher bit-rate to keep quality up you'll get more consistent sizes but alas, your ending up with files that are bigger than they need to be. Quali...

Re: Limiting bitrate using NVenc

Nope, there is no options to limit bitrate. rc-lookahead will still work There is no controls for motion estimation. adaptive bframes (b_adapt) is just on (1) or off (0), there is no modes like x264 has. Note also, rate control is less advanced than x264 and you can expect an increase in filesizes b...

These hardware encoders are supported by using their relevant SDK's from Nvidia, Intel and AMD. Those are written in C and C++

Your best bet is to look at their SDKs and examples.

Re: [NVEnc Encoding] Strange quality slider

HQ and HP are very likely identical to Slow and Fast. This is just how Nvidia presents the presets. They've got a newer preset system that's more akin to x264 that we plan to implement next year sometime that's a little less confusing. That said, the presets are not identical to x264 since the NVEnc...

Re: Confused in how the settings are meant to work - Slow to Fast

Speed, Quality, Filesize. Those are your 3 key variables. The Preset slider can impact all 3 to varying degrees. Note, that filesize can *increase* using slower presets as more advanced encoding techniques are added. This is normal behaviour. When this occurs, you can sometimes adjust RF down and st...

Re: Slow handbrake on ryzen 3900x

It's not unexpected to see encoders not using 100% CPU, especially on >8 core machines and CPU usage can vary greatly for a number of reasons, including settings and even memory bandwidth. CPU scaling does tend to improve with higher resolutions in the encode but you are more likley to run into othe...

Re: OTA Transport Streams with multiple audio tracks

There is no metadata on your tracks to tell you what they are, so unless you know ahead of time, you'll have to encode a short sample to figure it out if you can't trust the VLC ordering. The preview window might help with this. Nothing HandBrake can do about this if your audio tracks are untagged t...

1.2.2 files do indeed behave fine with Twonky. IT was a HandBrake change that triggered this bug to show up. Ultimately, our files are spec complaint and it's up to Twonky to read them correctly. It should not be reading track names from an Audio Track as the main title track. Performance is about t...
