Re: audio problems with short clips

Are you using a preset, and if so, which one? Just curious, but why AVI? Unless you have a specific need for AVI I would recommend using a more modern format like x264 or even mpeg4.

Re: APPLE TV DOES NOT SUPPORT THE FORMAT

Listen to the Mod. I never go over 61% on my encodes. Did you check your resulting file size? At 100% constant quality your file had to be HUGE. Just do the Universal preset and forget it. If you want, drag the quality up to 61 or 62, but don't touch anything else.

Re: Encoding an iTunes purchase?

Second, I was kind of surprised there weren't any other similar posts on this topic, or maybe I'm just missing what's obvious. Third, the actual question. Can a movie purchased on iTunes be encoded with HandBrake? I've tried three times now and each time HB crashes shortly after I click "start...

Re: Yet Another Dark Video Question

My only advice would be to play this on a TV display using a set-top box like ATV or PS3 or XBox. Try to eliminate the computer variable.

Re: Compile of SVN fails

I offer one piece of advice if everything else fails. Delete everything in your HB Dev directory (where you download the SVN) and then to to terminal, cd into the Dev directory, type "svn udpate," configure, and try make again. I couldn't compile for the last three months and it started wo...

Re: Audio synchronization (lip sync) with interlaced sources

Sweet, I'm content with it being a known issue. At least then there will be a fix in the next release. I'd like to compile the SVN but I haven't been able to do that for a few months. I keep getting build errors. Luckily I still have most of my source DVDs on the HDD so I can re-encode these with 0....

Re: Audio synchronization (lip sync) with interlaced sources

It really is so noticeable on my encodes that I'm surprised other people aren't commenting on it. Would the fact that all my DVDs are PAL, and the problematic ones are usually TV shows rather than movies be a contributing factor to my problem? Perhaps it doesn't arise on NTSC DVDs? I have noticed i...

Re: Apple TV AC3 Audio Out Of Sync

There is one other thing worth noting though probably has nothing to do with it. I have verified that atv 2.3.1 has re-enabled AC3 only audio (which was previously borked on atv 2.3) ... so *something* changed audio track - wise with the atv 2.3.1 update. Though, as I said I can report no such sync...

Not yet, but I plan on trying it out. I am also curious. I have suspicions about not using HDMI audio when using HDMI video.

Re: Apple TV AC3 Audio Out Of Sync

I'm not claiming VLC or QT is causing the problem. I think there may be a problem in the way QT reads the file as it's playing that may cause a problem with audio sync. I know this to be true in some instances because I've had audio sync issues with QT that were resolved once I closed the app and re...

Re: Apple TV AC3 Audio Out Of Sync

Now that I'm up-to-speed on this thread, I'll throw my two cents in. I have noticed sync issues with certain older DVDs that were encoded either full screen or non-anamorphic and hard-telecined (aka the encode is set to 29.97 fps and not soft-flagged like modern DVDs). It seems that they cause may b...

Picture Preview Now Two Clicks away

I've been following the SVN updates closely and have noticed that with the new Picture Settings widget, it's now two clicks to get to the Picture Preview window. Have there been any requests to have the Preview open when the Settings window is opened? I almost always would want to see the preview wh...

Re: Post Your "Best Settings" here and Why.

I'm getting ready to start encoding my library, and am very appreciative of nightstrm's Universal setting. One question before I get started: does the Universal setting incorporate any of the settings in the AppleTV Advanced Settings (Post PsyRDO) post? I'm not up to speed on the issues described i...

Re: SVN server down? Trying to compiling

Check your .svn files - if they are locked to the IP rather than the hostname, you will need to do a clean checkout. Rodney Thanks, worked like a charm! I think that is the answer most of us (idiots) were waiting for. I deleted all my files, did a new checkout with RapidSVN and got up to the curren...

SVN down?

I'm trying to connect to the SVN server to get the latest code to compile, but I get a connection error (in terminal and RapidSVN). Sorry if I missed a post about this already, but I couldn't find anything.

Re: Post Your "Best Settings" here and Why.

For that purpose I have my trusty XBox (first gen) with XBMC, that plays about any format you throw at it and makes a perfect "backup" unit :D Good idea, but you may regret the lack of quality of the iPhone preset. I'm just speaking for all of us here who have had similar experiences and ...

If I were you I'd play it safe. If you have the time and hard drive space, do the universal. There may come a time That you get sick of putting DVDs in and our of the player and want to get an ATV or put the video files on an xbox or ps3.

Being a Universal preset, it includes both audio sources, if available. The output device decides which codec it can use.

So my first time using HB,and trying to use Nightstrms settings, but I can not find this VFR check box. Is it still in the current build? Or am I just an idiot? It's not in 0.9.3--you select detelecine and decomb and leave it that way. Again, probably not the thread for this, but that should help y...

Re: 0.9.3 Really Slow..

Their press release was not inaccurate. They've based it off of preset comparisons, no doubt. And, using built-in presets with no modifications should prove to be at least a little faster, unless you have some other lurking variable. I suspect a big problem with users on 0.9.3 is not getting the upd...

Re: 0.9.3 Really Slow..

All these reports seem odd. It seems that most people who were running the SVN builds from 0.9.2 up to 0.9.3 have had no issues, or have seen improvement in speed. Then it seems that people who jumped from 0.9.2 to 0.9.3 without ever using snapshots or SVN builds have all the issues. As for myself, ...

Re: Post Your "Best Settings" here and Why.

No. I worked with the devs on the final design of the Universal preset and I use it exclusively for all non-HD encodes (albeit with decomb+detelceine picture filters enabled). Advances/changes made by the x264 devs no longer encodes using CRF to have as high of values to return output distinguishab...
