Re: HOW TO: Dummies guide to Blu Rays and DVD's using Handbr
Clean, high quality sources (like say Blu-ray transfers of recent movies) are a lot easier to compress than grainy, low quality sources (like DVD transfers of older films). Rate Factor is sort of like quality per pixel and with an HD picture you've got a lot more pixels but you're watching it on the...

Your second logged is messed up, but it looks like you used different encoders (ffmpeg vs x264) so the results are completely different.

Re: Usual size of a 45 minutes TV show
When I rip a movie, I always use a constant RF value. When I rip a tv series, I usually use 600mb (higher if including multiple audio tracks). They have always come out at a high quality and I don't mind the size. Some would say it's overkill, but I'd rather them be a little too large, than too sma...

Re: Help with 4:3 settings
I'm just starting to rip my DVDs to a network drive. I'm making mkv's, using 'Normal' settings (good enough to my eyes) and adding the commentary track if there is one. A two hour widescreen movie seems to come out around 800-900mb. Using the same settings, I have ripped a one hour DVD that's in 4:...

... I generally don't bother with detelecine for 23.976 fps material. I know this isn't the topic of this thread. But since it was mentioned...just a quick question: Can leaving detelecine on mess anything up? I've always left this on by default and things always "seem" o.k. But just wond...

MPEG Streamclip may be able to read the AIC file and output to something useful.

Change your Windows Explorer settings to show file extensions.
You renamed it from movie.m4v to movie.mp4.m4v since the extension was hidden.

The computer should remain responsive during encoding. In Activity Montior you can drop the priority of HandBrake to low.

Re: iPad Encoding
Hi. I´ve been using HB for several years. In fact I have hanbraked more than 100 movies in an external hard drive. They are either .mp4 or .mov format. Question is: I´m about to get an iPad and after testing on a borrowed iPad none of my movies can be seen on iPad. What is the procedure focused on ...

Re: Sourcing multiple files ??
Thank you! I have managed to get the build 94 and it allows selecting a folder as source. Is there a way to add all titles to the queue rather than one by one? I am now importing 350 clips from my stupid digital camera and it takes me more than 1000 clicks... am I missing something? Thanks! Don't p...

A trivial shell script can do thousands of files at a time... look around the forum, there's plenty of examples.

Re: MKV > MP4 Not retaining Chapter markers
The rule of thumb is 6 points on RF will double or halve the size of the video track. So RF 26 would give you about 2GB total.
