Re: [HB 1.6.1] Garbled Sound and Pixelated Video following Software Upgrade
For over a decade, handbrake has not included the external library necessary to rip DVDs, because it is illegal in some places. You have been free to add that to it, but it NOT included with handbrake. Many people have done so, but upgrading your operating system breaks many of the links, so it &quo...

Re: Output file too big after conversion from preset ATV
2160p is 4K, so you're going to have to give up on having "full resolution" and keeping the size down. If you have a 4MB limit on file size, you'll have to get really jittery, or cut the save resolution to 1080p and let the player resize for you. Most players are pretty good at that.

Re: Output file too big after conversion from preset ATV
You are going to have a LOT of trouble getting a 4K source that is over 2 hours long to be "under 4GB" without compressing it a LOT more than the ATV preset is intended for. You'll need to at least reduce the size to 1080p.
Re: new user
If the flash drive is formatted with FAT (as opposed to FAT32 or something more advanced), you simply could have an issue with any video over 4GB in size. You are having a lot of trouble, but haven't told us anything that explains the trouble.

Re: amd av1 hardware
The answer to this question is based on the answer to, "Is someone who is familiar with AMD AV1 encoding going to implement is in a way that can be supported by handbrake?"
The answer is "probably yes", but the answer of "When will it happen?" is rather open right now.

Re: DVD box set cannot be ripped by HB- Bug?
Handbrake is not intended to rip DVDs, so the 3rd-party add-on you are trying to use not being able to read a DVD is a handbrake bug? One of the limitations of that library is that it cannot deal with copy protections that weren't part of the DVD spec when it was written, and it cannot deal with unr...

Re: Handbrake not reading DVDs after update
Actually, you do not have to do anything so convoluted. MakeMKV, at least, can rip the video file directly the an MKV, which then is processed by handbrake. If I remember correctly, MakeMKV only offers to do "image" backups for Blurays and UHDs.

Re: Handbrake not reading DVDs after update
If you were previously encoding DVDs with handbrake, it was because you had installed a 3rd-party library to enable it. Windows has been updating to make it so that such libraries have to be installed for each program that uses them, so changing versions of handbrake will "break" that inte...

Re: Support for SMPTE-TT
One problem is that the formats specified seem to be "text-based", and subtitles found on sources like DVD and Bluray are generally graphics-based. Those sources that have text-based captioning are typically using "Closed Captioning", which is part of the video itself. EIA-608/70...

Re: Sorry newbie here...Missing English subtitles in "Downfall"
Subtitles on a DVD or Bluray will have language tags. Your ripping tool (such as MakeMKV) will normally include them. It is POSSIBLE that a disk may have the subtitles as separate files. That is rare. You can expand MakeMKV's list of titles to rip to show what individual languages are available in e...

Re: VIDEO_TS won't fully transfer
Handbrake is not designed to rip from DVDs. It assumes that it gets the full video. When you force it to read through a third-party library, if the library has a problem, handbrake simply assumes the video ended. Using something like MakeMKV or another ripping tool, you'll find out about the errors ...

Re: Region Protection on the 14th Title
Handbrake is not intended to read DVD/BD/UHD disks directly, because they're copy protected. While there are third-party ways to do it, you're limited by what the third-party solution supports. From what you've posted, the third-party code is having an issue with this disk's copy protection. Have yo...

Re: Shaw Scope Volume Two
If you set your system date to something prior to when the key expired on MakeMKV, you can run it with the listed key from the forum. It only checks the date when the program starts. HOWEVER, that's not going to fix the titles with no subtitles where Handbrake did not detect them in the stream. Some...

Re: Question about chapter markers
Chapter markers within the file would come from a "chapter track" within the video. If there is none, you would get a "single chapter" that is the whole length of the file. If there is already a chapter "track", opening the "chapter window" should show its con...

Re: Update started saving videos to mp4
The handbrake default used to be M4V, because of Apple. If you wanted more advanced features, the extension HAD to be M4V. Some odd hardware also insisted on M4V for "advanced MP4". I can't remember, actually, what Apple shut off for "MP4 files"... I've not had Apple hardware, ei...

Re: Update started saving videos to mp4
The default has changed over the years for what to use as the extension for MP4 files. MP4 is the same as M4V, but Apple USED TO allow more features for files ending in M4V. That has been changing over the years, though. You can turn setting M4V back on through the preferences. Mine still uses M4V b...

Is your playback environment limited to MP4-only? A lot are, but not everything. The MKV format is more flexible with subtitles. You should test that in your playback system.

Re: Trimming a video (file) without changing it
If you are looking at trimming OTHER THAN on key frames, you're going to need something that recodes at least PART of the video, because you need to start with a key frame. Handbrake can do that, but it's going to recode the whole thing.

Re: How to find a key frame?
Reading what was sent to you, the frame you cut on will become a "key frame", because handbrake will generate one for it as the start.
