Re: vob -- support is there, but there is no documentation

HandBrake will not stitch vobs together and output one mended, compressed file. A separate chapter file will likely be necessary*. Obviously, you didn't make a feature request. Exactly what type of guidance is required? * Don't know if you can do that in GUI. HandBrake can accept almost any sort of ...

yeh I understand about the depends on source etc, was just wondering about a ball park figure. What adjustments to you make to the Universal preset? Is it ok to use the Universal preset for DivX movie files? ie I know you cant get better quality, but what if the rez of the source file is smaller th...

Re: Is Apple Universal Preset best for...

As I said before, there is no easy way to give you a file size as the preset is completely based on the quality of the source. [/size] That's what I would have said. The Universal Preset encodes to a quality . File sizes will vary wildly between 1GB <=> 4 GB in my experience. The goal of that prese...

Just chiming in to say that I've tested all methods many times over now with nothing to report. Moved to using the 90000 timescale as well, without issue.

Re: Is Apple Universal Preset best for...

The Universal Preset is adored. We all love it. Perhaps there's cause to bump it up to 62% for nice DVD's... or down to 57% for ugly old grainy DVD's... but usually it's best left alone. I use it everyday & I know how to use all the options.

59.94fps CRF

Screwing with the # of keyframes isn't really good advice for filesize management but I did play with it a while ago. You're probably better off adding reference frames and bframes, or even reducing resolution to 540.

You do get RDO on b-frames @ 7. At 9 you get rate-distortion refinement (on all frames), which uses RDO to refine both motion vectors and intra prediction modes, instead of just on partition decision.

Re: VFR question

Quick question about VFR, when I encode hard telecined HDTV content using VFR how can I tell if it actually worked. Don't get me wrong, the encodes looks fantastic, but it still reports itself as 29.97 or 60 fps. Am I doing something wrong or is this just how its supposed to be? -e x264 -T -x ref=2...

Re: Apple TV and iPod Nano and iPhone rip

I have found that files I rip for the Apple TV with Universal setting work fine on my iPhone, but often do not load onto my iPod Nano (latest version). Is a setting I can add to get the files to all work on the nano? Seems odd to me that some play and some don't, but I am sure somebody out there as...

Re: XBMC on Apple TV Take 2 [UPDATED]

Just to be clear, for users considering hacking ... installing xbmc on the atv does not "do anything" to the normal playback operation of the ATV. So if someone says "it doesn't work on the xmbc, but works great on the stock software", that could happen on the same box simultane...

Re: MacGui: Constant Quality now QP/RF based

Has anybody seen the hidden temporal adjustment in the quicktime export? It's a slider that changes form when you hold the option key. Kind neat. We could have a 3 tick "good" "better" "best" slider that turns into a full RF scale when you hold down 'option' key. Doubtf...

Re: XBMC on Apple TV Take 2 [UPDATED]

My understanding is that "Same as source" keeps the existing timecodes from the original video, so the 24fps portions stay 24fps and the 30fps portions stay 30fps. I'm also assuming "Same as source" with detelecine will automatically convert a 30fps telecined section into 24fps ...

van, please correct or comment as needed. Mostly, I'm just writing this out for my own sanity. Modes CFR , constant frame rate - frames will be dropped or duplicated as needed to make things constant. The most compatible, yet least desirable mode. IFR , limited frame rate - similar to CFR, but ther...
