Re: The Linux options on Stop please
Queuing is handled by each interface separately. They maintain lists of encodes and the core lib just processes each encode job it is given with no sense of what comes before or after (except for multiple pass encodes). We used to have it handled in core but it made things a lot less flexible for th...

Re: DTS in an M4V container, ever?
I guess it's up to Apple. Err...Apple's already done its duty as the registrar for MP4 by processing DTS Inc.'s request to register DTS and DTS-HD audio as allowed codecs in the file format: http://www.mp4ra.org/codecs.html You should to be complaining to DTS for not opening up their implementation...

Re: x264 cli vs Handbrake 0.9.4 core quality/cropping
The latest x264 is almost always going to produce the best results. We stay very up to date with it thanks to dynaflash's vigilance. Use the nightly builds of HB to benefit from this. HB detects the FPS in various ways. It gets information from libavformat when it parses file inputs. It gets other i...

Well that's an excellent reason for us to drop it then, since it is not in our interest to make it easy for people to produce low-quality output using questionable rate control choices.

All that reading and writing? It's not as if HB is temporarily storing media streams in there, or something. Just 10 preview images per title and, if using 2-pass, a text log of frame statistics.pndnass wrote:All that reading and writing by HB

Use a nightly build; 0.9.4 had issues with decoding 5.1 aac input.

Re: A Problem with Detelecined Video
Your log doesn't say what version of HB...if you're using 0.9.4, try the nightlies. If that doesn't help, it's time to delve into pullup's parameters and tweak the cadence break detection strength.

Re: Best quality convert MKV rip to M4V apple TV HD
I asked you for logs, not MediaInfo output. One of those two is useless anyway since it lacks the x264 settings. I'm not sure what you're confused about here. What we need to see, to judge your claim, is the exact settings used in a video you outputted with HandBrake and the resulting quality metric...

Re: Video encoded with Apple TV won't play on iPad
Interesting. I just found out that Airvideo on the iPad plays level 5.1 movies just fine. There's no on-the-fly conversion since the movies stored on the server is in the right format. Well, 5.1 shouldn't be the right format...right? Err...isn't Airvideo a transcoder just like StreamToMe is? What m...

Re: Best quality convert MKV rip to M4V apple TV HD
Why would you need to see logs? Maybe because you're making claims about quality and the logs would let us see the actual metrics your encode produces, what the source actually was like, and what settings you actually used? Provide the info you were asked for if you actually want a worthwhile respo...

Re: PAUSE does not significantly reduce CPU load
I don't think the word "significantly" means what you think it means. Seeing as HB, when running optimally, is going to use almost *all* your CPU, going down to 26%-18% load is certainly a significant reduction, no?

Amusing that they're treating it as a Mai Tai even though I believe it's supposed to be a freshly-poured Tequila Sunrise....certainly looks more like grenadine floating on top before it sinks than dark rum, and it goes along with titer's drunken origin story.

Re: Decomb fails with strict-anamorphic, ok for 1:1 PAR outp
I can't see a trace of them in the Square Pixel version. I doubt the downscaling to 400p could've hidden it? That's exactly what happened. That frame is not combed enough to cross the filter's threshold value. Encode twice without decombing: with and without anamorphic. Compare and you will see tha...

Re: Encoder settings for optimal quality?
Essentially, "quality loss". 0 means that no quality is lost No...the "lossless" part of QP 0 is not "lossless quality." As far as I understand, it means no DCT coefficients are dropped. There's no loss of data from the transform. But that is *not* the same as no loss ...

Re: Decomb fails with strict-anamorphic, ok for 1:1 PAR outp
A: Decomb works on the video before it's scaled. It always works on the source size. So output resolution settings like whether or not to use anamorphic don't matter to it.
B: Your log shows it performed the same work in both logs.
C: Your anamorphic sample does not appear to be interlaced.

The -M flag in the CLI will let you change the signaled color from the default, which is based on the resolution of the source. Values are 601 and 709.

Realize that not all of season 1 can be filtered properly because the source is messed up. At least, that's the way it is in the NTSC edition of the pilot episode.

No, actually you're wrong -- I was in the television industry 50 years ago and I can tell you for a fact that interlacing was developed to smooth out motion. No, actually, we're both right. In Randall C. Ballard's July 19, 1932 patent filing for RCA both reasons are listed, one right after the othe...
