Re: PGS support
Um, not to be the copyright police, but what you just mentioned in your post is frowned on around here. I think it's recommended that you only use copyrighted material that you have lawfully purchased for your own personal use. Rule #4. Otherwise, stuff can get locked real fast. Cheers.

Picture the A-Team, with JBRJake as Murdoch, and you kinda get the drift. And instead of using plasma cutters to turn 55 gallon drums into missiles, they use computers to.... Well, you get the idea.

Re: iTunes Store HD encoding?
I'll poke around my magazine rack (AKA a bin in the bathroom) and see if I can't locate the exact issue. Unfortunately, like everything in Popular Science and Popular Mechanics, everything is dumber down a little bit too much for my taste.

Re: iTunes Store HD encoding?
There was an article in Popular Science recently where it was noted it was 4K with a file size ranging anywhere from 1-4TB for the average 1.75 hour film. And it still took their server farm almost 8 hours to crunch one movie down to the quality of what Netflix streams to their viewers, I think.

Re: Extra chapter when I try to encode
This is a problem with both Mac the Ripper and Rip-it. I don't know why, and in all honesty don't really care, only because passing it through DTOX corrects the issue 99% of the time. It is annoying, but easily fixed. Usually, however, I have also found that a non-DTOX'ed movie's extra chapter is on...

Re: iTunes Store Video
Dynaflash, dynaflash, dynaflash... How many times do you have to be told? They use VHS to composite cable into an Elgato H.264 device, giving them the superior-to-Handbrake results. I heard the wiki's being updated to advise people of this.\ Next thing we know, you'll start claiming that Xgrid...

Re: Shouldn't HB be using all my cores?
So what we learned from this was- MTR was marginally slower and produced a marginally larger DVD folder in some cases. And that means, um... (JBRJake - Feel free to insert dry, sharp, but on-point comment at this time). Night all.

Re: Shouldn't HB be using all my cores?
Here's the information- I ripped 2 discs. Disc 1 was Miracle by Disney (size- 7.17 GB) Rip-it took 31 minutes MTR took 33 minutes Both discs had an approximate folder size of 7.18 GB. Disc 2 was The Butterfly Effect - Theatrical (size- 4.21 GB) Rip-it took 20 minutes MTR took 21 minutes One interest...

Re: Shouldn't HB be using all my cores?
I use mac the ripper pretty exclusively, but I do have Rip-it for those stubborn movies. My rips usually take about half the time. I called home this morning and asked my much more attractive second half to time a rip of a DVD I had left sitting on the desk (yes, my wife has become well versed in th...

30-40 minutes for a rip? That seems like quite awhile. What drive does that have (manufacturer)? Are you using an external?

Re: iPhone can handel HD?!?
I'm well aware of the output capabilities of composite. It matters because Apple is already providing a pathway to "take your media anywhere, anytime". The logical next direction would be to ensure an HD version that can connect to an HD set, output at an HD level (and if you hadn't notice...

Re: iPhone can handel HD?!?
Two things about my last post, though - -This is definitely reserved for the 'rumored' iphone 3.0 hardware revision, not the software update in June -I already have the patch cable that takes the video out on the iphone/ipod and displays it via composite and stereo right/left onto a television, and ...

Re: iPhone can handel HD?!?
All signs have been pointing to this for quite awhile. The new graphics chip Apple is slated to replace the current unit with is not only faster by default, but scalable in number of chips used, requires no software OSchanges (all threading done on IC hardware level), and the battery drain, as sever...

Re: iPhone can handel HD?!?
I read that. I've been wondering about this quite awhile. The spec is rumored (and I stress rumored) to be 720p or 1080i, not p, as this would then fall in line with the max that the iTunes store currently doles out.

Re: New to mac some advice please
I have had a theory for awhile, and with some of the proposed processor architecture rumors and developments (multi-core graphics processors on one chip, extremely low voltage consumption), I think Apple will very soon (1-2 years) be releasing an iPhone and iPod capable of playing the same video as ...

Re: Encoding an iTunes purchase?
Just as an aside on what Nightstorm said, The Fair Use Clause in the copyright law DOES allow you to make a single back-up copy of any media you own. The DMCA, however, forbids this if it involves breaking any existing copy protection. I'll let you decide which one takes precedence. (Hint: it's not ...

Don't listen to them Dynaflash. "You've got the right stuff, baby". We'll get him through this. We just need to go "Step-by-step". (I fear one day when we do meet, you won't be putting Miller High Life on the tab. It is the champagne of beers, you know.) edited for spelling

Now you've got me worried. I'm going to have to check what I'm actually running when I get home. I scanned the Devices thread with regards to AppleTV and thought that was the one I had settled on. Re: What is the problem here HandBrake?
Did you click on 'update presets' in the drop-down menu in the presets slide out tray? There should be a generic AppleTV preset in there once you do this. Also, try the Devices forum, as there are some excellent alternative AppleTV presets in there that, frankly, look stunning on my 50" 1080p p...
