Whipping coconuts.

Hey Hawkman. Our "read-the-guide" posts were just minutes apart. Couldn't help but laugh a bit when I noticed this after submitting mine. :D I agree that alot of people in this forum are not reading guides and expecting to be spoiled by the devs. But, to Michael's credit, anamorphic encodi...

But we are not getting identical movies: he is getting 720x404 and I am getting 853x480. There definitely is a difference in the settings if you're both using the same version. (GUI/CLI shouldn't be different.) If you can post the Query you're using and your friend's command line, then maybe one of...

I would have actually recommended the same thing as MichaelLax - recapturing the source all over agin under different conditions (with of course, a quality hit). Another solution would be editing (if you can rip this to straight MPEG-2). Not that we don't want to help you, but this is not really an ...

Hey Michael. HandBrake on the Mac/Windows, with just the CLI, etc., all run under the same "engine", or core libraries, as Dynaflash mentioned. Assuming the exact settings, you should both have identical content. The difference in output is that you are both using different settings for su...

Don't know about that but it looks pretty damn good to me. Very close to the original DVD. I am however using the High Qual iPod setting so already there i'm losing some quality but it's definately good enough for me. Hey just realized someone in another thread pointed out my #2 in my last post on this thread.

Nevertheless, a little repetition is a confirmation that HB's confirmation is repetitious. :D

Whether it was a good place for a post of this nature or not, I feel my post can work in this post. :) 2 Bug reports! 1) Sometimes the last item in the queue doesn't get encoded. To compensate for this, I sometimes register the smallest file last and twice, but nevetheless you may want to look into ...

To crop or not to crop? This is basically taste and opinion. I personally don't crop so I can't help you in this. I consider the black borders as part of the whole production... :P I know lots has to do with the aspect ratio of the source and HandBrake is supposed to adjust. There are threads on it,...

@ PuzZLeR: Thanks for the tip about the Divx certified DVD players. I was always struggling with that on my old one. It now belongs to my brother and sister-in-law and I've been trying to send them various odds and ends with little success. Hi. Not sure I understood. Did you mean "struggling&q...

Hello Rhester/Rodney, No, and no, as VFW is a Windows-only solution and HandBrake is a multiplatform tool. Understood. What you're describing, ironically, is essentially AviSynth - which is well-proven and extremely powerful. AviSynth's output will also feed x264 CLI directly, BTW, as it will mencod...

Hi again, The MP4 container does not support AC3. If you want x264 encodes (or any H.264 video) with the source AC3 audio, use MKV instead of MP4. Keep in mind: MKV supports more codecs than MP4. but, MP4 is more supported with decoders, playback apps and devices. Take your pick. :D It depends what ...

Hmmm. Just a thought, and maybe for the sake of discussion, while reading this thread. Is there any way the HandBrake CLI can be enabled as a VFW option, or if there's no way have there been any plans/thoughts of a VFW version? I'm currently experimenting with the "DeBugMode Frameserver plugin&...

Welcome to the forum. Which codec and container are you using? What "Audio Track" did you encode and what "Audio MixDown" option did you enable (IF you enabled it)? Just by reading your post, I can see that maybe you used H.264 with audio MP3 in .mp4. May not be a good idea if th...

Yes, having children means a higher tolerance for the damaged property that you will have to deal with... Well, if the smallest file sizes aren't that important then you can just still use those settings but bump up the CRF value a bit. so, say for example, you were a complete newb *cough*, and you wanted a high-quality encode regardless of file-size or bitrate. You would just move the slider over to 65-75? What about the options line, the trellis and all that? Hi I'm no expert at this, but I can pass on a pointer from the "p...

In my experience, that error means nothing but a warning that it doesn't seem to like your DvD's structure or something. During all its complaining it will still encode your files all the way... Is this a "home-made" DvD? If it's not a commercial DvD, instead one you made from Nero, or oth...

Welcome to the forum. I want to make a back-up of a movie on DVD. You can make a straight copy or a different encoded format. It is encrypted. Can someone help me? This is not what HandBrake does. HandBrake only will input source that is decrypted. You have to look elsewhere for that. If you have Wi...

If you plan to keep the original tapes (or even the DvD) then go ahead and use HandBrake to get an Apple TV conversion. Best you dump the DvD onto your hard drive for better results. Hi again. Two things to keep in mind. 1)HandBrake does not capture video. 2)HandBrake only accepts MPEG-2 source, which is lossy from the "real" source. It will convert to MPEG-4, which is also further lossy from MPEG-2. How would replaying the tapes again through a VCR improve the situati...

Hi, I am new here. First time. Welcome. :) So I want to go out and get a 500 gig drive If you can wait just a few more months, TB drives, which of course have twice the capacity as 500GB, will be roughly the same price as 500GB today. It's not only the money you save, but the fact that you can put ...
