Whipping coconuts.
Hey Hawkman. Our "read-the-guide" posts were just minutes apart. Couldn't help but laugh a bit when I noticed this after submitting mine. :D I agree that alot of people in this forum are not reading guides and expecting to be spoiled by the devs. But, to Michael's credit, anamorphic encodi...

But we are not getting identical movies: he is getting 720x404 and I am getting 853x480. There definitely is a difference in the settings if you're both using the same version. (GUI/CLI shouldn't be different.) If you can post the Query you're using and your friend's command line, then maybe one of...

I would have actually recommended the same thing as MichaelLax - recapturing the source all over agin under different conditions (with of course, a quality hit). Another solution would be editing (if you can rip this to straight MPEG-2). Not that we don't want to help you, but this is not really an ...

Don't know about that but it looks pretty damn good to me. Very close to the original DVD. I am however using the High Qual iPod setting so already there i'm losing some quality but it's definately good enough for me. Plus series like Fawlty Towers, Only Fools and Horses and older episodes of Frien...

Whether it was a good place for a post of this nature or not, I feel my post can work in this post. :) 2 Bug reports! 1) Sometimes the last item in the queue doesn't get encoded. To compensate for this, I sometimes register the smallest file last and twice, but nevetheless you may want to look into ...
To crop or not to crop? This is basically taste and opinion. I personally don't crop so I can't help you in this. I consider the black borders as part of the whole production... :P I know lots has to do with the aspect ratio of the source and HandBrake is supposed to adjust. There are threads on it,...

Hello Rhester/Rodney, No, and no, as VFW is a Windows-only solution and HandBrake is a multiplatform tool. Understood. What you're describing, ironically, is essentially AviSynth - which is well-proven and extremely powerful. AviSynth's output will also feed x264 CLI directly, BTW, as it will mencod...
Hi again, The MP4 container does not support AC3. If you want x264 encodes (or any H.264 video) with the source AC3 audio, use MKV instead of MP4. Keep in mind: MKV supports more codecs than MP4. but, MP4 is more supported with decoders, playback apps and devices. Take your pick. :D It depends what ...

Yes, having children means a higher tolerance for the damaged property that you will have to deal with... Well, if the smallest file sizes aren't that important then you can just still use those settings but bump up the CRF value a bit. The idea behind those settings is getting the quality yo...

Sounds like a real pain but may be the best solution. Oh yes... the complexities of video and video formats and video processing.... ain't it fun? :D Seriously speaking, I am not familiar with the complexities of DV and I don't have a Mac to comment on its wonderful apps, etc. (I'm still in Windows...

Re: dvd movie format
Welcome to the forum. I want to make a back-up of a movie on DVD. You can make a straight copy or a different encoded format. It is encrypted. Can someone help me? This is not what HandBrake does. HandBrake only will input source that is decrypted. You have to look elsewhere for that. If you have Wi...

If you plan to keep the original tapes (or even the DvD) then go ahead and use HandBrake to get an Apple TV conversion. Best you dump the DvD onto your hard drive for better results. To be honest, I don't entrust a procedure that could take some time when it's entirely from my optical drive. Doesn't...

Hello jbrjake, Yes, you did mention it before and I do believe you. Yes, HB is sending the same data to x264 as before as we can both see. I apologize if it's coming off as whining. I was only trying to be helpful if it was a bug. However, I'm just not sure what I'm doing different in this version. ...

Hi again, Just to make sure I understand here. Just to clarify, if I play the movies from dvd into the computer I will definitely loose quality. You mean encode , not play, them from DvD to MPEG-4 files onto your computer? If so, yes, you will definitely lose quality. All MPEG-4 based codecs: Xvid/D...

Re: can I use handbrake for this
Hi, I am new here. First time. Welcome. :) So I want to go out and get a 500 gig drive If you can wait just a few more months, TB drives, which of course have twice the capacity as 500GB, will be roughly the same price as 500GB today. It's not only the money you save, but the fact that you can put ...
