Re: Average Bitrate (kbps): [same as source]

In general: try to play around with the quality values instead ;) (constant quality) it gives way better results and only needs one encode to be good -> average bitrate only gives good results for two-pass encoding or if you need to specify a certain limit for streams 0 -> lossless any bigger value ...

Re: several chunks (TS) encoding into one file [SOLVED!]

not just cameras but some receivers as well -> that record to FAT32 they have to split up recordings if they are getting to big and can be easily merged on file systems that support bigger files (NTFS/EXT*/etc.) some receivers or cameras even split up their files on file systems were it isn't needed...

Re: Possible 3D Support for Near Lossless or Compressed MKV Files

would be awesome though if 3d in general would get supported one day
television broadcasters send a Full HD transportstream and side-by-side display for 3D (anamorphic of course)

handbrake could allow the user to set the Stereo Mode for an encoded video

Re: NVENC Hardware Encoding for H264 and H265

@Boildown:
you are forgetting about the HEVC support though
it doesn't only encode much faster than Handbrake now, but also allows two encodes at the same time

-> it can be a huge time saver until HEVC gets reasonably fast

And what about multi-threading? is libav's aac encoder multi-threaded?

Re: question: x264 RF 0 -> What are the differences between the available profiles?

It would be cool, if the GUI could communicate that in the future, or at least the wiki article, I linked above, because it is far from obvious that you need to set the profile to auto

Why isn't high444 available as a profile btw.? (not tested enough or unfinished?)

Re: Audio and Subtitle names

I don't know, but that is what I heard in this forum, I thought the optimizations were mostly for a variable bitrate
Now I would like to know as well, how the FDK encoder is doing atm.

question: x264 RF 0 -> What are the differences between the available profiles?

I have simple question: if you set constant quality for the x264 encoder to 0 will it really be lossless regardless the chosen profile? (Baseline/Main/High) so that the only difference is a higher bitrate for the encoded file with the main profile and that this file is easier to decode? (I'm asking ...

Re: Audio and Subtitle names

The only thing that you need to know though, is that the FDK Encoder can throttle your encode (/be a bottleneck for your whole encode), because it is single-threaded only as far as I know, but the quality is way superior to libav at the moment

Re: add 10bit

I have a question: Is the following statement true?: http://ateme.com/en/technology/ask-the-expert/Why-does-10-bit-save-bandwidth (the article is in a pdf that you need to download from the page above) They claim that even encoding 8bit in 10bit is more efficient than 8bit in 8bit. You can reduce th...

Re: NVENC Hardware Encoding for H264 and H265

Hasn't somebody around here said that the quality that nvenc outputs for H264 is worse than Intel Quick Sync? Or am I mistaken? Has it changed since then? Or was that statement about the encoder speed? Encoding several videos at the same time would be awesome though! Especially since you could maybe...

Skylake is likely to support hardware based encoding and decoding of HEVC so the driver update will probably be released before/on the IDF August 2015

Re: Estimating file size

I just totally forgot that source is likely to be encoded differently/or maybe isn't encoded at all (raw) -> so that even simple scenes might take up lots of space but little time to encode

so you would need a preanalysis for that (two-pass encoding)

What about taking guesses from the file size that is left, rather than the video duration? That should be more accurate, right?

Re: Estimating file size

about the unreliable length of the source video: that may has to do with video sources like transportstreams which can contain errors and can be cutted by leaving out certain parts, right?

Re: Calculate estimated size and processing time from Live Preview

Credits can be encoded way better than a movie itself -> if you choose the wrong scene, the ETA will be way too short and the file size estimate will be way too small.

Re: why not adding EBU file (.stl) subtitle to the software

if there are other subtitle formats that support the same needs you could be using Subtitle Edit to convert your .stl subtitles to that specific format ;)

http://www.nikse.dk/subtitleedit/

according to the website there are ways to get it running on Linux, too

Re: Handbrake 0.10.1 Windows - Remove AAC (libavcodec)

FDK AAC is way superior to libav, but it should be left in, for faster encoding, it will improve eventually like musicvid already said one reason why aac is important to me for example is in fact compatibility it's not like ac3 and other dolby codecs are unsupported but they demand horrendous prices...

Re: add 10bit

Just trying to share some news here :)
I don't need 10bit at all right now

I know that this feature will be implemented once it's needed and 10bit hits mainstream, because the devs are doing a great job
It will take some time to hit mainstream
But we just got one step closer :)

some news:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI#Version_2.0
http://www.anandtech.com/show/9152/futu ... p-and-hevc

HDMI 2.0a added 10bit / HDR support
and lots of TVs of the newest 4k generation will support HDR
and the UHD Bluray will use it
