Re: EEDI2 Port
Well, I like the new threaded decomb v2 the best (only defaults compared). It's a wee bit faster, and the ouput looks better. So far only tested on Seinfeld. If there's any users out there who know how to patch, please do. Jon won't likely commit this until some more testing happens and I can't do i...

Is there any way Handbrake would support soft subs, like .srt files and not just DVD TIFF subs?

Sane range for quality percent is 55%-65% with many serious users around here using 60-62

Extra Audio Tracks on Apple TV 2.3
Apple has never given up any info on how the files are 'supposed to be' when using more than 2 audio tracks. Have you tried aac,ac3,ac3 ( the commentary being ac3)?

Confirm patch applies. I vote this goes in for sure.
aname + alang allows nano/classic to do alternate audio commentary. Just change the second english language to any other language.
Thanks for this.

Re: Constant Quality Rate vs Film for non-Apple use
The universal preset will give files that are easier to decode than the high profile presets will. If the playback computer will be used while watching films simultaneously, use the universal preset. Now that adds an interesting point of consideration. If I understood you correctly the "Univer...

RipIt and HandBrake
I have tried a number of DVDs ripped with RipIT (purchased version, not the trial version) and they have all crashed on open, until today. Today I tried Doogle and it opened it. I tried to get an activity log but HB crashes and it doesn't create a log file. I did capture the Apple Incident Report i...

How-To: Rip Pesky DVD's with mplayer (mac)
Mac users with command line experience may find ripping a dvd with mplayer useful. In fact, it can be the best option for ripping horribly mastered/encrypted discs when combinations of mactheripper, fairmount, dvd2onex, yadex, 0sex, and ripit fail. Subs and chapters will be lost using this method. ...

Upscaling isn't allowed in the GUI version. Use the command line if you must (but upscaling is a pointless waste of bits).

XBMC Issues
Yes, I did confirm it was XBMC. And with the new settings you guys have given me I've got the tearing down to a minimum on XBMC too. The only time it's a problem now is rapid flashes from dark to light (like lightening or a flickering light). Glad I was able to help a bit, at least. Share your sett...

Re: "tearing" problems
I'm not really happy with those settings even at 64% quality. I have to bump to 70 or more to prevent distant faces from being excessively muddied. What about when NOT using xbmc? Also, did the tearing go away? As far as the %, you just might have higher standard than me (or a really big TV you are...

Re: xvid mpeg 4 says no valid data
You can turn off cabac and use only one ref frame & no bframes with x264. That would make decoding much easier.xdcamuk wrote:Is a fix due? We have used XVID because it is supposed to allow more scrubability due to more keyframes, and takes less processor power than H264.

Deblock Problems with XMBC
xmbc sucks on deblock. try adding... to your x264 string to disable it. Or, instead, weaken the setting... That might help, not sure. But it will make the file easier for xbmc to decode.

Re: AppleTV and XBOX360 Preset
You probably don't need 2 pass at that high bitrate. And it takes a trained eye to see the difference between subq 7 and subq 9 at that bitrate also. So take it down to 7 or 6 for a speed up.

Chipmunk Audio & Bad Sync
Here's a log and vob sample named abs that has troubled me. The disc is a cheap exercise dvd 480x480 with mpeg2 audio. No luck encoding or even preprocessing with streamclip, then encoding.
The sample should be enough to troubleshoot and is just 2 megs.
