Re: [Patches welcome] Arbitrary AAC mixdowns
Wow Rodeo. I had actually been looking over code and trying to see what needed doing. I can safely say I would have broken (or at least not thought to modify) faac (at least in that way) or vorbis, and possibly muxmp4 (as I mostly use mkv). Thank you very much, I shall learn how it affects the audio...

Re: [Patches welcome] Arbitrary AAC mixdowns
Ok, chances are I'll let this request die, as I easily admit it isn't an overly common situation. If however I were to decide to hack at a patch, where would be a good place to start RTFC? The common and downmix files or the patch on https://reviews.handbrake.fr/r/121/ ?

Re: [Patches welcome] Arbitrary AAC mixdowns
OTOH I can compress a multi channel audio stream to a smaller bitrate while losing less spatial information by using discrete AAC. My general scenario is audio from my desktop to my computer grade Logitech 5.1 setup via a griffin firewave audio box (the speakers do not have optical in). The fire wav...

Re: [Patches welcome] Arbitrary AAC mixdowns
I agree the first option would be a lot of work. I also agree that your second solution is a special case, which leads me to query: isn't the current 6 channel setup a corner case as well? Why is 5.1 (and i guess 2 and 1 channels as well) the only case where discrete AAC is allowed? So, how much wor...

[Patches welcome] Arbitrary AAC mixdowns
Hi All, I would like to request the ability to have arbitrary AAC mixdowns. For example, I have a blu-ray rip (of Last Chance to See) that has 5.0 channel DTS ( LCR, Side LR). This is a documentary, so a 3000kbps audio stream (as reported by mediainfo) is a little overkill. I would like to be able t...

Re: Encodes aren't encoding to Target Filesize
I notice this is reported on Macs. Could the issue be Apple's change in reporting file sizes in 10.6? Target file size used to work fine back in the day. And the bitrate reported in your log appears to match the desired rate.

Re: Can't install
Fair enough, I guess I have used mac os all my life, so I am kinda used to it. But still, a drag-and-drop between two open windows is a process of file copying used on every GUI operating system, and you must know where the Apps folder is to open most of your apps. I know my Dock has been full on my...

Re: Can't install
But that's exactly what you are doing with the 'new' way, copying the new app to the Apps folder. The 'new' way, with a link to the Apps folder, just removes the step of navigating all the way to /Applications, or dragging it to the link I believe is in the Dock of new Macs, or the sidebar in any Fi...

[Fixed] Audio sync bug possibly introduced in 3786
Hi all, As in the title, I believe a sync bug has been introduced in 3786, or at least between 3785 and 3790. An EyeTV recording produces these logs: svn 3785, not a complete encode due to local power poll being hit by a car. HandBrake Activity Log for /Users/andrewdicker/Desktop/tmp tv shows/Shaoli...

Re: OS X HB 0.9.5 Oddity
OK, that sounds like an encoded file issue alright. Put an encode log of a video that exhibits this here so we can look for errors or odd settings. These logs are stored in your Application Support folder in the library folder within your home (by default anyway).

What are you using as to play the movies?
VLC currently does similar to what you describe with H.264 video as it does not correctly decode files encoded with an advanced feature I currently forget. Try QT or another player and see if it is the file of player.

Re: How to create a lossless MKV file
1 should probably be best, or 2 depending on the scalers used by the DVD player or VLC to get the image to your TVs resolution. 3 and 4 should look identical to each other, assuming same codec settings, as the container (mkv/mp4) has no bearing on quality. 3/4 should look nearly identical to 1/2 eve...

Current Ipod preset does not have me=tesa in it. It has me=umh. Also, both use subme=6, not 9. Hence, you have changed something somewhere.

Re: What does native VFR time stamp handling mean for Handbrake?
I think it's more to do with x264 no longer assuming a constant frame rate for motion prediction and rate control. Means little for HB, the SVN head has been just updated for the new x264 revision, with no modifications to HB.

Re: target file size and input file size
If size is no concern, why not just keep the dvd rip? Any encoding will be slightly lossy - it has to be, at least with most codecs (lossless codecs are a special class, and not very useful unless you are a video pro) My dvd encodes with hb are typically 2GB or less. Dont use 80% quality, that's ask...

DReffects,
What happens to the subwoofer channel with this patch? Seems to me to be ignored, and surely losing this sound information can't be proper behavior.

Yep, thats pretty much expected. Depending on settings the x264 should be almost as good to much better than the xvid.

Fair enough,
wondered if since you guys didn't actually make that framework, just used it, that that got round legal issues. Obviously not, so oh well, I'll go back to compiling svn again.
Thanks,
Andrew

VLCKit instead of VLC.app?
Hi all, With all the furore over Videolan not having a public release of 1.0.3 64bit, and currently 0 Mac GUI devs, have you considered moving to VLCKit? I realise this requires code changes, and would most certainly make the HB binary much larger, but I read that VLCKit is full Obj-C, with full 32/...

Re: HandBrake SVN2845 Snapshot
It does not support AVI output. Input should still be fine.
Anyway, VLC or mplayer should play them if HB can open them. The same underlying library is used by them all for AVI opening.
