Agreed, Anamonde. If 160kbps is a hard limit for iTunes, I request that any development here be limited to that as well. It would be insane to have a version of HB for hacked AppleTVs and one for stock AppleTVs. Or ... imagine another checkbox in the GUI: "Have you hacked your AppleTV?" (F...

I agree this is starting to split hairs, but if you (the collective "you", not necessarily you ) wanted to verify if it was an authoring error as opposed to something else, would myDVDEdit tell you? http://www.mydvdedit.com/ After all, it claims to be "a tool which allows you to under...

... There is one extra step though, you have to go through when you encode using this method. You need to set the Anamorphic bit within the MP4 file after encoding so it looks correct on your TV. To do this make note of the Anamorphic settings when you encoded and then open the MP4 file with Quickt...

It does use the QT app as the gui Makes no sense to me. How is an app a GUI? Do you mean it's a skin for Qu...

Once it gets in our hands, it's all video regardless of original creation. But I take it original creation is important, and apparently the frame rate stays the same all the way to the DVD disk. I guess that means a DVD player adjusts the framerate for the comfort of the TV but that AppleTV or softw...

... Ultimately outputting an AAC5.1 stream to a compatible receiver seems to be the way to go instead of converting to one of the older DVD audio formats. For many reasons, this is the way they'll likely go. But there needs to be some critical mass before the various Japanese electronics manufactur...

http://blogs.sun.com/seapegasus/entry/turbo_quicktime_encoding It does appear to use Quicktime. One thing I've never understood about EyeTV though, is that even without QTPro you can export to all sorts of things from EyeTV. Maybe EyeTV uses the QT engine? In other news, I got a new copy of EyeTV to...

How did you create a .mov file with Handbrake or Mediafork?

How do you propose to burn a DVD with Handbrake?

No, it's a deliberate design choice. Why add more data to compress? Because the alternative, as HB does it with anamorphic OFF, is to toss some vertical pixels --- somewhere down the line something has to upscale them back. Tyler chose the other way, to preserve all the pixels + "add a column ...

Regarding the FireWave, I just asked Griffin about non-AC3 5.1 audio sources: Regarding Dolby Digital, Dolby Pro Logic II support ... does that imply only from an AC3 soundtrack, or also from an AAC 5.1 soundtrack, such as what's inside some of the .mov movie trailers on apple.com? and got back: If ...

I have been told by Apple that if it will play in Front Row, it will play on Apple TV. Sounds like you might have an inside scoop; I don't recall reading that claim anywhere else. All Apple TV is is Front Row modified for TV. Now, that I've read. But it always struck me as more conjecture, based on...

I wonder if ffmpegX would do what you want. http://ffmpegX.com On the "video" tab you can un-check "Encode video" but the pixel dimension boxes are still available. Perhaps that's the equivalent of only cropping the image ... But wait, you need to lower the bitrate as well? Um .....

VisualHub has Xgrid support. It gets around the problem of chopping up a MPEG-2 stream by not doing so. Rather, it sends the whole enchilada across the network so that the other computer has the whole video to work with. So, while the total encoding of your batch might be faster, your network should...

As a matter of fact, last month I briefly tried Visual Hub with their H.264 checkbox ticked and was confused when I later looked at the log and saw ffmpeg mentioned at the beginning of the logfile! Makes more sense now.
