Handbrake is not a ripper. Try ripping with makemkv first, then encode with handbrake.

It will depend on your settings but you should be ok.

The handbrake team write the documentation that you call “nonsense”. Why would they do that?

Can you please post your log of the handbrake encode that you did AFTER ripping with makemkv. Try ripping the main title to an mkv file with makemkv rather than backup.

DVDFab Passkey might be causing the error, that’s why it’s best to rip your blu ray first.

Handbrake is not a ripper, rip your blu ray with makemkv then encode with handbrake. This may help, but it may not, but try it.

Or just open the folder in the GUI

Rip your DVD with the program MakeMKV. Then convert the video with Handbrake if needed.

Drop your encoder preset to slow or very slow, set the profile to auto. Then keep raising the RF until you get a size/quality you want.

You could also cut your AAC bitrate and convert eac3 to ac3 to save a little space.

Should be in the same directory.
